My '08 A6 typically runs at 165.
I was monitoring the temp on the way to and from Carlisle last week, and I did see it go as high as 180. This is through the mountains, 85 degree outside temps, in 6th gear at around 65 mph.

I track all of the DIC temperature readouts and my highest temp was a 207 at 114 degrees cruising on the interstate in SW Arizona at 80 MPH, my lowest was a 158 at 61 degrees again cruising on the interstate.

Also, driving in traffic tends to run up the temp; I've seen over 200' in traffic with outside temp around 80'.
