The waterpump on my 2006 is leaking around the nipple at the top side of the pump just above the thermostat. I have a couple of questions before I replace the pump myself. Are there instructions somewhere on the procedure? What is the difference between a GM Performance Parts waterpump and an AC Delco waterpump? Is it a two piece gasket? How do you get the air pockets out of the system after you refill the radiator? Any advice would be appreciated.
Welcome to the club... I normally would of changed my 06's myself but didn't have time so the dealership did it. So I can't offer technical help. 06 water pumps seem to have a life expectancy ...
Damage should be whatever they get for the part (list = $380) plus about 2 1/2 hours labor. Ours (3 of them) were done under warranty but I was actually able to wait while they did them. So I know how fast they *can* do them.
I replaced the water pump on my '05 myself. All I can say is
'glue' the gaskets to the pump before installation. Took me
about an hour and a half to complete the process. The radiator
'burped' itself after a couple of heat/cooling cycles (in the driveway).
My question is... Does anyone know of anyone who
rebuilds these water pumps (and alternators)?
I have one of each on a shelf that I can't bear to throw
in a recycling bin.
PS Replacing the alternator (and serpentine belt) took 20 minutes.
We are running out of places that rebuild things. When in HS and college I sold auto parts and we would carry bearings, brushes, regulators, and several other electrical parts. I just went to several sites and looked for electrical replacement parts for my 2008 alternator. The alternator and starter were the only listings. I do not remember ever selling seals or bearings for a water pump. I would also like to know the difference in the HP water pump.
Had to have mine replaced not long ago with only around 10k on the clock. Was just out of my 3 year warranty but figured my extended would take care of it. The guys just covered it under the drivetrain warranty so it didn't even cost me a dime in deductable. Nonetheless, these things shouldn't "break" as soon as they've been doing.
Agreed. I would've thought the water pump and alternator would last longer than 33K. I did a lot of 'lurking' here to see if others had the
same problems and it turns out... I'm not alone. I love the car so I will
pay the price! Fast, comfortable AND get 25+ mpg!
Thanks for all of the feedback. Received my new waterpump today. Came with gaskets -$220 plus shipping. Probably won't do install until Tueday. My prior Vette was a 2000 and I have the GM repairs manuals for it. I assume ( boy do I hate that word ) that the R&R for a LS1 and a LS2 are the same?
