I have the Z06 mufflers on my 07 and want to do the muffler mod. It's been a long time since I've done any welding, so this question is for those of you who do it often.
I have a Mig wire-fed fulx-wire welder. It has a low and high setting for amperage, and a wire feed speed adjustment. I have the 0.30" wire. When trying to weld the case back together (the portion that was cut out for the mod) I'm getting burn-through. I've tried lowering the wire speed and am on th elow amperage setting. Welding the pipe was no problem, but I don't want to burn big(ger) holes in the muffler case.
You need a better welder, lower amperage and slower wire speed, also a shielding gas would be better than the flux coated wire. You might want to have it re welded by a pro. Thin gauge sheet metal is hard to weld cleanly

Unfortunately, kevakasper is correct. The problem is you are trying to fill the gap cut away by the grinder using small wire and not enough amperage adjustment. Most of these welding machines from China are just not suited for thin material.
Borrow a MIG with infinite amperage adjustment and CO2 or CO2/Argon gas shielding and it will make quick work of the muffler can.
You can also have it TIG welded, although it will take more time.
you can braze it if you have a gas ax , i brazed mine on my 09 and it worked out nice .and i did it on the car both of em .and sounds greattttt just be carful
