Default Key fob alarm/panic problems

I just bought a 09 Z06 with 1,500 miles and the other day a loud truck set off my alarm while parked.I hit the unlock button but she still kept honking. The only thing I could do to turn off the alarm was start the car. When I came home I tested the panic button.Sure enough nothing would turn off the alarm except for me to hit the start button.I tried both fobs and the only way to stop the alarm was to hit the ignition button.Any ideas on a fix before I bring it in to my dealer. Thanks in advance.

I doubt a truck set off your alarm as i don't believe there is a motion sensor alarm on the Vette. Maybe you accidently hit the panic button on the fob. If you have it in your pocket and you start hitting it often put a piece of tape over the metal disc on the inside of the fob over the panic function.

I have the same issue - Everytime I hit the panic button and it goes off - I used to think that the only way I could turn it off was by opening the door and starting it. However, I found that if you hit the PANIC button again - It will turn it off...

Hope this helps. It used to tick me off not being able to turn it off while everyone stared at me.... This is the only car I ever had that the "Unlock" button did NOT turn off the alarm - But, the "Panic" button does.

The unlock button on the fob should have turned off the alarm, according to page 2-19 of the 2009 owner's manual.

Testing the Alarm
To test the system:
1. Make sure the trunk lid/hatch is latched.
2. Lower the window on the driver door.
3. Manually arm the system.
4. Close the doors and wait 30 seconds.
5. Reach through the open window and manually pull
the release lever on the floor.
6. Press the unlock button on the transmitter to turn
off the alarm.

If the alarm does not sound, check to see if the horn
works. The horn fuse may be blown. See Fuses and
Circuit Breakers on page 5-103. If the horn works, but the
alarm does not go off, see your dealer/retailer.

Disarming the System
Press the unlock button on the keyless access
transmitter or squeeze the door handle sensor while the
transmitter is near the vehicle to unlock a door. Unlocking
a door any other way sets off the alarm. If the alarm
sounds, press the unlock button on the keyless access
transmitter to disarm it.

Do not leave the key or device that disarms or
deactivates the theft deterrent system in the vehicle.

I guess I will have to bring the car in to get serviced as I tried every button and nothing turns the alarm off except getting in the car and pushing the start button.

Sometimes you need to hold the button in for just a second or two, hard to do when that danged horn is waking up the entire neighborhood.

Other times, it seemed like I had to push the button twice.

OP, you said you just got the car..........

If a passing loud truck did indeed set off your alarm, maybe the previous owner installed an aftermarket alarm system. That might also explain why you have to start the car to shut it off.

The OEM alarm is not affected by outside noises and when you do activate it with the panic button, you just hit the panic button again to turn it off. Otherwise the un-lock button should turn it off.

OEM alarm system is pretty simple actually, IMHO.
