Default Vert vs coupe?

Hi we want to buy a new or near new vette. We now have a mustang gt vert. Is the ride close to a vert in the coupe with the top off? We live in Socal so we have the top down alot. Do you pick up more leg and seat back space in a coupe? Any feed back on the vert vs the coupe would be great. thanks.

Yes, the coupe with the top off is very close to the ride in vert with the top down. Taking the top off and on the coupe is the pain compared to the vert. Don't think there is any difference regarding leg/seat back room. There was a poll posted recently and preference for the vert vs coupe was pretty close. After reading the posts below. Obviously the storage room is larger in the coupe, and if an inch more leg room makes a difference in the coupe, so be it. I love the look and the drive of the convertible, so that was my choice. :o

I had a C5 Coupe for 6 years. I traded it for a 08 Vert. I have taken long trips with both. There is a little more storage in a coupe....but I would rather go TOPLESS. And, the Vert is quieter.

You'll get a lot of different opinions on this one.

I own a C6 Vert and previously owned a C5 Coupe. There definitely is more room behind the seats in the Coupe, if that's what's important to you, but the top-off Coupe ride is nothing like the top-down ride in a Vert. If you like top-down driving as I do, the Vert is the car for you.

I am a previous Coupe owner who switched to a Vert. It would be interesting to see how many have gone Coupe-to-Vert or Vert-to-Coupe.

Yes, you DO have more space in coupes......my first Vette was a new '09 Z51 Roadster.....kept it only 9 months and parted with it to get my new '10 Z06.....I did not drive or even sit-in the Z06 until I signed papers and owned it. After the salesman pointed out some differences between base and 'Z, he handed me my #1 FOB (#2 was in owner stuff) I got in and IMMEDIATELY found more leg room AND the difference in storage area was amazing.....I have not regretted one minute.....(my dream was to own a 427 and a Vert-had a vert which was special to me because it was my first Vette) but the dealer gave new buyer (from Pheonix-dealership in Ft Worth) my number and he called me so he agreed that down the road if he parts with it he will give op to buy back....but anyway....

My point is a big YES....there's like inch more leg room (which is huge if your tall like me) and the addl storage area....I love....only thing is Z0/ZR have fixed roofs....(small price for such beasts of car).....sooo, if space is important get the coupe.....all coupes except Z0/ZR have removeable tops anyway....

oh yeah....my Z06 rides BETTER than the Roadster did (but it had Z51 pkg)....believe that....shocked me when I drove off in my 'Z....

Wow thanks for the fast replys. My stang has so much flex and i get a lot of top rattle with the top up and that why we have the top down most of the time. Imo verts dont look that great when there tops are up. I drove my sisters 08 vert auto and what a huge difference between the stang and the vette.

I have a convertible, and I almost always drive with the roof down. It's easy to do, whether you buy a manual top or a power top.

I was pretty surprised to read this thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...p-removal.html

Most of the coupe owners who replied said they rarely if ever take their roof panels off.

I'd say if you like to have the open air ride, especially now that Fall is almost here, buy a convertible.

You answered your own question....there is a HUGE difference between a Mustang and Vette. My Vert has absolutely NO flex that I can detect. And as far a what it looks like with the top up......the whole reason to buy a Vert is to put the top DOWN....and it that position NO CAR LOOKS BETTER.

Corvettes were made to be topless - I love my '08 vert and the top is down unless it' raining.

My vert had NO rattles and did NOT notice any flex....Vette (C6) was designed from scratch as a vert....only reason the Z0/ZR has fixed roof design is two reasons:

1) they have aluminum frames so the frames are not as rigid and

2) they must have the extra rigidity because of their added power/performance....

I own a Z0-and can tell you unless you are going to drag race or go to the track-or just want to own a 427-or a LS9, then get the base/GS......(do not get me wrong, I LOVE my Z0....and plan to NEVER part with it unless it's for a Carbon Edition....

Excuse me....there IS another (third) reason Z0/ZR have aluminum frames.....WEIGHT advantage....

If you're asking about top off comparison, there is a big difference.

I had a C4 coupe, with the top off there was alot of wind buffeting and no storage room since the top took up all the space in the rear. I don't know how the roof is stored in the C6 coupe since I have never had one.

My current vert has plenty of trunk room for me and my wife to take one week vacations in it. Of course it is in the summer so we don't have any heavy thick clothing to carry. There is nothing like cruising in the vert with the top down

Add one more vote for the convertible. I've had both, and the coupe with the top off is a poor substitute at best for the convertible. No comparison. I've also found that while the storage space is slightly less with the convertible, it has the advantage of being an out-of-sight locked area. My wife and I have taken several extended trips and haven't lacked for space.

Sorry, I have to disagree - there is a noticeable difference. Yes you can get the wind blowing through your hair in a coupe, but it just isn't the same. And you get much more buffeting in a coupe than with the entire top down in a vert.

The basic advantage of the coupe over the vert is that it has double the rear storage room, but unlike the Mustang vert the Vette vert is as solid as a rock.

The Vert will require a little more maintenance, as far as the top is concerned. You'll get those little fabric wrinkles with the top but it's not that noticeable. You'll also want to keep the top very clean. I've never been in another C6 Vert but ours is very quiet with the top up. With the top down it's about like riding on a motorcycle, less the wind in your face. Very open and the view while driving is fantastic.
The lines on a Vert IMHO are more pleasing to look upon. I think the rear trunk lines are very nice and the overall look with top up, or down are very stylish.
Go for what your heart calls out for. You can't go wrong with either version of the Vette.

I've sat in both a coupe and I own a convertible, and the headroom for me was the issue. I'm 6'4" tall and I needed some more headroom so the convertible was the only way I could go. The hard top has a ridge right were my head needs to be in the back where the top meets the car.

Others say the convertible is quieter, and I feel that mine is very quiet, even though I'm on my last 1/4 of my Goodyear's treadlife.

Life with the fabric top is not so bad, hit it with RaggTopp once in the spring, once in the fall and you're good. And as you can see, it doesn't mind the snow or cold at all.

The only downside I see for the vert is the potential for vandelism, in the form of a slashed top... but I really haven't heard of that happening much. I use mine several times a week and do take it to WalMart and the like, no problems yet.

Best of luck deciding. Enjoy the thought proccess, it's free!

The coupe is actually louder because of the halo turbulence and because of the rear window funneling noise from the tires/tranny up and forward to the driver & passenger. I test drove both.

No, the leg room is the same.

I have a coupe and love how it looks. The clear Lexan top is great to look through all year 'round. I love the vert with the top down. Don't like it at all with the top up. Just my opinion. Coupe also has a huge amount of trunk space. I take my see-thru top off (or put it on) in 40 sec. by myself. Not as easy to do with the solid removable top - MUCH heavier.

I owned four verts before getting my coupe. I bought verts because I liked the look of the roof line better. Where I live the weather is either hot and humid or cold and rainy. My last vert only had the top down twice in the five years I owned it. In all fairness, I’ve never taken the top off the coupe either. I find the coupe is not as noisy as the vert. There is more storage room in back on a coupe. If I live in SoCal I would go with the vert.
