Has the edge lifted and there is dirt stuck under it or are we talking about wax residue?

A fingernail with a soft microfiber towel or a soft toothbrush will take care of wax residue.

Maintenance and Care
1. To clean stains use a citrus based cleaner (P12S Total Auto Wash) polish the paint and the clear plastics separately, tape the edges with masking tape. It has a clear coat so it can be cared for like a clear coated paint; use Zaino or Klasse as they will dry ‘clear’.

2. Use Z-14 Plastic Magic Cleaner & Polish™ or Plexus® Plastic Cleaner, Protectant and Polish for maintenance and to remove any finger marks / smudges.

3. To clean and maintain the surface any product used on a clear bra should be optically clear and provide UV protection (Z8 Grand Finale Spray Seal or Optimum Opti-Seal).

4. Product application - start at the centre and work outwards, do not use an abrasive compound on the plastic surface or detailer’s clay as it will cause micro-fine surface scratches.

5. Another caution is to avoid buffing over the seams, which creates a noticeable wax line as well.

6. To remove ‘clouding’ from the paint under the clear bra; the suns heat or a hairdryer will remove it.

7. Providing protection from ultra violet radiation (UVR) is very important to avoid photo synthesis (colour fading / yellowing) UVR protection is a sacrificial / renewable component; this is due to the UV protection layer being degraded by exposure to the elements (sun, sand, road or sea salt, and etc) so it is imperative that you renew it and needs to be re-applied on a regular 45 to 60 day basis (dependent upon location and environmental conditions) Application- use 303™ Space Protectant, spray product onto a micro fibre towel, gently wipe surface working from the centre outwards.

8. To remove minor scratches in the film (tape the edges of the auto mask when polishing the vehicles paint) Use Menzerna Final Finish Polish / Super Finish (PO106FA) and a (POC) Black Finishing foam pad 1000 RPM / speed # 4-5,do not use any downward machine pressure and maintain a fast linear motion. It is important not to apply a lot of pressure to the film as this may lead to burning of the surface. Use a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol to clean out the edge.
Alternative -Novus Plastic Scratch Remover with a LC White pad using a PC speed # 4.

9. What can be done about wax build up along the seams and how can I avoid it? Are you sure it's wax and not the glue from the Clear Bra? As it gets warm, some of them will shrink a little and leave residue around the edges. Gently remove with an adhesive remover on a micro fibre towel. Be sure to go over any paint that you get the adhesive remover on with a protective wax; put a vinyl protection on any clear bra you get the adhesive remover on.

10. When waxing around a clear bra, mask off the line just a little over the edge with blue painter's tape. Wax will leave a white line on the seam, use painter’s tape to mask the seams before polishing / waxing and wax the film and uncovered portions separately to keep from wax build-up.

11. When you remove the tape just wipe off the wax on the paint. If you accidentally wax over the seam, use isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and a Q-Tip or a damp micro fibre towel and rub it off. Maintenance / Care -Zaino Z-CS Clear Seal - wipe on, and wipe off (WOWO) walk away, no buffing, just allow to air dry. Use on paint, glass, wheels, plastic, clear bra, or trim for the protection, durability, slickness, and gloss that Zaino is most renowned for. All surfaces are protected against potentially damaging exposure to sun or ultra-violet light with UV inhibitors.

I use a soft toothbrush right after I wax.
Or, you can also spray the area with detailer & use a microfiber towel & your fingernail to get off the residue.

Be careful with quick detailers, as many of these products contain petroleum distilates that will dry the film out and cause it to stain/discolor easier (it essentially turns the film into a sponge).

Also, you'll want to be cautious about repeated use of Plexus. I have a picture below of some accelerated lab testing done with two panels of generic urethane. The white one is untreated. The yellow one was treated with Plexus. You're are best off using purpose made products on ppf, but the main concern is not using anything that is harmful.

I'm sorry if I need to read every post to catch up and understand what has been stated here and usually do but do not have enough time today.

As I understand your post, the product Plexus causes the yellowing? If so I will be sure to stay away from that product. The only quick detailer I use is Mequiars.....how is that one? I have used both their (they have what I call a mid (red container) and higher end (black) container respectively) quick detailer products.....are they safe to use?

Asking for opinions: what is the best "Quick Detailer" and best "Liquid Wax" to use? I typically wax once every 30-45 days in summer and not at all in winter....Spring and Fall it depends on how warm weather is....has to be at least 75 degrees or more before I will wax.....(I live in North Texas....get to drive Vette 25-45% of time in winter but never in messy weather i.e. rain, snow and don't drive it in winter if roads are wet and nasty)

Asking for opinions: I know that 3M makes clear bra....are there any others to consider....or should I consider any other brands? When choosing someone to install clear bra, what should I be looking out for.....I have decided to get this done to my Vette when I get back from vacation in couple weeks....is this something anybody can do? Or do I need to find a skilled shop/individual to do this? How much should I be expecting to pay for this? Is it something (product) I need to buy or will shop/individual furnish it? I just found out about it few months ago and zero experience w/it. I have a '10 Z06 I bought new on Memorial Day and until last week was doing a good job keeping it/paint nice....i.e. chips on paint....our local #&$^ <--(I'm speechless for something nice to say about them :BS: ) State Road crew was re-topping road surface on main road from my house into town-while going to work one morning (do not drive Vette very often to work) I was at highway speed and suddenly, with three other cars ahead of me, hit the newly topped area and I get sprayed with crushed granite, and my Z's runflats picking it up and slinging it as well......well....up to this time the paint was "perfect".....not any more. I get pissed thinking about it why State road crews leave loose gravel all over the road.....I had a new driveway put in late spring this year and know first hand what they have to do.....I do not know why they do not brush it and haul it back for the next job....anyway....enough of my whining....thanks in advance for responses...

Sorry for the late reply. I missed this thread somehow.

Plexus does cause yellowing in polyurethane paint protection film. This has been confirmed.

I looked up the MSDS on the quick detailers you mentioned and they look to be safe for occasional dusting etc.

On the wax side, there are many that are safe for the clear bra, but you should also be concerned with something that will provide maximum protection as well. We make a purpose made sealant for paint protection film which contains no harmful ingredients and protects against contamination by environmental pollutants. Traditional wax will not provide much protection against this sort of thing because the material is too porous.

You definitely need a professional to put the film on. If you don't, it is highly unlikely that you will be pleased with the results. Let me know what city you are in if you need a recommendation for an installer.

Best Regards,

Tim
