Is the porter cable polisher a good kit to buy from autogeek? I have swirl marks on my car and some waterspots and im tired of looking at them. I was wonder if any one has tried a kit from autogeek and would like to share some insight on the porter cable.
Don't have one but I went to a seminar where several brands were demonstrated. The PC7424 is a good machine and very popular. I will say though that one thing I learned is it might be worth considering the newer 7424X (I think). It is a little more powerful and adds some rotary action along with the random action. It's a step down from the Flex which has more rotary action. The rotary action helps build a little more heat which makes working on the Vette's hard clear coat a little faster and easier. The standard 7424 is fine, it just takes longer to achieve a given result. I suggest you contact Autogeek, or maybe they will jump in here. They are very helpful with any questions you have. Have fun.
The Porter Cable is a good machine. I bought mine before the newer PC was out and before the Flex was introduced.
It is true the newer machines have more correcting power. It is also true that for the beginner they require more care. The original Porter Cable is as close to foolproof as you can get. It can do anything the others can do, it just requires more time. That's not always a bad thing.
I've done everything from headlight correction to cleaning up wetsanding with the original Porter Cable. And personally, it's what I would (and have) recommended to friends just getting into this. If you want to start polishing your car or others once a week, but the Flex. No question.
In truth, you shouldn't have to polish your full car more than once every couple of years. You might need a spot job a few times of year to remove a scuff or something similar. In my opinion, the savings over the flex could be well used in buying some decent towels, a good sealant, and maybe a nice wax. That way you can prevent the swirls from getting there in the first place (assuming you learn proper washing and drying techniques), and you can prevent water spots in the future by doing a good sealant.
The PC works really well. Frankly, my hands will ring like a bell after a long session with that machine on #6.
I've spent some serious time with my DD truck to get rid of water spots and wonder if the Flex would have done the job faster. However, you can do a lot of damage with a stronger tool and care must always be taken when grinding and smoothing microscopic levels of clear coat off of your car.
I purchased our PC kit from Autogeeks, that included the Menzenra product line and I really like the results, oh in the year I have had the kit I have done about 10 Vettes alone with awesome results
I have used a PC-7424 for several years. this is a great little machine that you really can't do any damage with. You will love this little gem and will get excellent technical advise and products from the Geek. If you want to spend twice as much consider the Flex machine. the flex is faster and a little more efficient if that is what you need. Just ask Autogeek which would be the best for you.
