Hi Guys,
I bought a new key fob today and when I went to program it (following cclives wonderfull instructions) when I turn the key five times with insturctins 1-4 done my car does nothing. The DIC says nothing, I have done it within the 5 seconds required and I have tried 6 and 7 turns just incase it was not reading all of them.
Possibly the key cylinder is dirty and not making a full turn OR not making contact inside. You can try some WD40 on the key, insert, turn a couple times and remove to clean then repeat. See if you notice it turning any further with each use. Be firm but gentle, the key can break. Should go a complete 90 degrees.
Here's a thread that, while not addressing your actual issue, does have some useful info on how the hatch lock and key can be difficult to operate:
I did the same thing last night. Here is what worked for me.
1. Put car in Reverse, Car on accessory mode, glove box open, working FOB in the cupholder, key already in the keyhole with trunk open.
2. Car from acc mode to OFF, close the door, run to the back and turn 5 or 6 times. You should be able to see the DIC say "ready for FOB 3"
3. Then run into the car, take unprogrammed FOB and put into the glove box slot with buttons facing the passenger side. I wiggled mine in since I was programming an 08 FOB into an 06. Seems like the FOB didnt fit like the 06 FOB did. Wait until it says Ready for FOB 4.
4. Dont forget to take your key out of the trunk and take car out of reverse when done.
Mine is an 06. Not sure if putting it in reverse did anything or maybe starting with acc mode then turning to off but it finally worked after multiple tries.
I think it helped having the car in reverse because after the wd (key works nice now) it still did not work but with the car in reverse (stick) it programed my new fab but now I try to re-program both fabs step # 16 the dic is looking for fab #4 it doesent say OFF/Acc to learn like it should.
You guys got me through the first set any ideas here.

There are 2 different programming procedures. The shorter one (which I think you used) will only add fobs. It "knows" what the last programmed fob number was and tries to program the next fob for the next higher number.
The longer procedure must be used if you want to reprogram both fobs.
JimTn,
I did the first programming process to get my new key fob to work and it did nicely.
I moved on to the second process so I could change both fobs because there is one floating around out there that has access to my car. The second procedure starts the same as the first but when you get to step 16 the car says looking for fob #4 not Off/Acc to learn like it says in the instuructions.
I dont think so Rick. I put them about 20 feet away outside the garage behind the steel enterance door to my garage. you think that is still too close?
I bought two extra fobs but was not able to program them by following the instructions. Not certain if i had car in reverse. On my first dealer visit, they programmed the fobs. Before leaving the dealer, I checked all fobs, new & old, and found that one of my original fobs no longer worked. Dealer will correct it on next visit.
Sounds like you aren't complying with step 14. The FOB's need to be far away from the car. Like it says, it's IMPORTANT. Might that be the problem?
RickT you know your stuff. I tried it yesterday with the fobs 20 feet away and behind a steel door but today I put them about 30 feet away inside a shop fridge and wala it worked just like you laid out.

Thanks for all your information

Good to hear. I've been waiting for cclive to come by and offer more insight.
