I went to Bowling Green on Monday for the Xperiance Museum tour and while touring the plant I asked about my creaking top and I was told that the dealers are now using a strip of velcro to stop the top from creaking. I was told to go to my dealer and they will order the kit and install it on my top. I looked around and hadn't seen this fix yet, has anybody else heard of this?
Starting in about 2008, the cars come from the factory with a strip of fuzzy velcro inside the little pockets at the front of the top; the pockets that engage the storage clips in the trunk when the top is stored there.
Some people have also put velcro in the storage hooks themselves, and I put some on the "platform" of the hook base, where the front of the top rests in storage.
I wonder if this dealer fix is like some of that, or completely different?
i don't know, but I do know that about halfway on my trip to BG it started getting bad and by the time I got back home to NJ it's dow right horrible, I have to do something soon.
I have an 07 and here is how I fixed my problem about two years ago. I removed the top and cleaned the pins, holes, and handle rollers very thoroughly. I applied a thin film of white lithium grease to all of the above areas and I have not heard a creak or pop since.
