We have too much fun with our Z51 to let her go.
BRING HER BACK GM & WE CAN CALL IT THE ENTRY LEVEL CORVETTE & GET RID OF THE SO CALLED BASE CORVETTE.
Peace, Eran
The only way they could get me into a Grand Sport is they bring back both Z51 and LMB. JSB just does not make it for me.

I like my 08 Z51 Coupe with the LS3 it has been a blast from day one, but the GS widebody and enhancements look sweet, I would get my removable top and Z06 looks all in one - the awesome 7.0....but the base LS3 engine is more then enough for me. I don't plan on buying one just for the widebody

We got a base 09 Coupe as this was not to be a track car, had one before I totaled it. Did not need the tranny cooler, but did change out the Sway bars, did the rotor swap and shock change to Koni FSDs and good to go

The Z51 package is for autocrossing on smooth pavements. It, like the G/S, is prone to skittering and darting on bumpy curves and the ride is a bit harsh.

I have the Z51 on the base coupe, it can be jarring on bad roads but the widebody is 10x worse than the Z51 without the widebody. The wide tires cause the car to track on some roads, it is a constant battle to keep the car straight, as it keeps wanting to pull in all directions.

That was the biggest beef car reviewers had with the widebody model C6, the wide tires that get "stuck" in the grooves/ruts created in the roads and the driver fighting to keep the car straight.

The wider the tires, the greater the tracking. While the widebody may look "cool", it is not too fun to drive with on rutted roads.

You should actually drive one before you attempt to critique one.

The wide front tires make it more of a chore to steer straight on a freeway. This was addressed for the 2011 model.

I assume you are not a fan of the Z06 either. Just asking. I have driven a 2010 Z06 and presently own a 2011 GS and just love it.

I love the Z06. It is all a matter of compromise. I would be willing to give up ride quality for the brute power of the Z06.

Unfortunately, the Z06 does not come in an auto. So I bought a 2008 Z51 instead.

What did GM do on the 2011 to fix this problem?

I bet you wish you had mine:
09 Z51 Velocity Yellow with NPP, glass roof, polished alloys, six speed, 1 LT. Fast, fun, and puts a grin on everytime.

There is talk that GM might bring back the Z51 in 2012 for the base model.

The marketing man for the Corvette is Harlan Charles. I spoke to him at the C5/C6 Corvette bash, Corvettes at Carlisle and just a few weeks ago at the SEMA show.

He assured me that the Z51 package WOULD NOT EVER BE AVAILABLE AS A STAND ALONE OPTION AGAIN. I assume the idea to make it available only on the Grand Sport is his idea and he doesn't like anyone goring his ox.

He said the GS is too popular to make the Z51 a stand alone option. I also said it was at the expense of the Z06 (which only sold a little over 500 units last year).

I suggest anyone wanting to voice their opinion on it write Mr. Charles at:

Harlan Charles
Product Marketing Manager, Corvette
100 Renaissance Center
Mail Stop 482-A29-B96
Detroit, MI 48265

or harlan.w.charles@gm.com

He certainly didn't seem to care when I said it. With just in time parts (parts arriving just in time for the build of the car) there is no reason they can't make the Z51 a stand alone option, Harlan just chooses not too. Maybe if enough people write to him he will change his mind.

Glen
