When Trapster first was announced 2 years + ago the buzz was huge. iPhone users flaunted this mobile app every chance they could.
When the Android version was released last year, I immediately searched it out and installed. But I quickly found out that the .25 mile alert setting did not work; not at all, it was silent. The next setting, .5 miles worked fine but real world urban driving made this setting fail. There sometimes were several red light cameras or speed traps within a half mile radius making alerts irrelevant.
I found a discussion/feedback forum for Trapster and soon found that many other Android users were also complaining about the .25 mile setting not working. I joined in and posted and reposted at regular intervals expressing the interest for Trapster to work for Android users.
Well today I got a direct reply from a rep at Trapster offering me a trial for the new BETA build for Android that purportedly fixes the issue: web1.trapster.com/trapsterbeta.apk
Installed and running, but will need a few days to test in real world urban conditions. So far it looks good. Nice interface (as before) with a few new features and added settings. The utility to set alert distance is now a slider. It defaults to .3 miles, which looks to be the smallest distance now, instead of .25 miles as before.
Works seamless with the C6 audio system, silencing the music when approaching a threat.

i just installed the passport 9500CI radar detector. already has all the redlight camera locations in it's database. lets me know where the speed traps are WELL in advance and its always working.
i installed the trapster on my iphone and used it once. found it annoying because it alerted all the time even when nothing was there.
seemed to me like it might just be safer to simply drive the speed limit.
i prefer a device that keeps its yap shut unless i need to be alerted to somthing important.
the 9500 Ci does exactly that!

As with every app, settings can be adjusted for your own preferences. The Trapster app goes well beyond just red light cameras. Anyway, if you find it annoying I would stay clear of it. Don't need any more annoyed drivers on the road

Older Corvettes can use a 3.5mm stereo plug (as I do) but the newer Vettes can utilize the OEM BT or add a PAL.

Reason: correction
For those with older vettes without bluetooth capabilities, you can very easily install a wired connection offered by CF member Ray Kawal (website.)
I believe Ray offers several options for different year Corvettes including BT and PAL. Please contact him directly ( ray@kawal.net .) I only know about the specific set-up I installed in my own car.

Reason: added info
So...As long as you just leave this app running with GPS enabled on the phone, it warns you audibly via bluetooth? Thats pretty cool. Is there any sort of fee for the service?
The app is free. Some Nav systems also pull this info from the Trapster database, Garmin being one.
