Have an 08 with 11000 miles, noticed the other day that I have a slight oil leak coming from the oil pan its hard to pinpoint so the dealer put some dye in the engine and then hes going to check tomorrow with a special light to see exactly where its coming from. Its obviosly going to be a warranty job and I was told that the tourque tube needs to be taken out to get to the oil pan (big job) has anybody had any experience with this? Had my c5 for 10 years and it was always bone dry..Thanks
My 07 had an oil pan gasket leak. The dealer had to use oil dye to find it. To change the oil pan gasket the engine is supported with a fixture and the front cradle is dropped. That is the usual procedure. Figure 2 days in the shop (overnight to let the gasket sealer cure fully).

Common problem on the C6 - LS3. You are looking at them removing the engine cradle. BIG JOB. They have to realign the front end when they are done. Find a good dealer because a bad one will open another can of worms. They will end up damaging your car in some way in their attempt to fix the leak.

Tom
And that's exacly how long it took for mine to be fixed, now bone dry.
Did you have to have the front end aligned like LBear said?
Yes, that's part of the process after they bolt everything back up.
BTW - Mine was leaking up front, some oil was dripping onto the spring, the rest was on the pan and causing a drip at the oil drain plug. Just curious as to where they tell you yours is.
One of the other members here said their dealer was able to seal the pan bolts and that took care of it - may be a completely different circumstance, but I think the GM fix is to replace the gasket. My dealer had done 1 before (or at least that's what he told me).
My LS2 has a rear main seal that is getting fixed. I also had a '05 Chevy HD 1500 that had a bad rear main seal. both vehicles were under 70,000 miles and started to leak. The truck was bad. Any who GM has a problem IMO with the LS1, LS2 and LS3 blocks and the rear mains. My friend has a WS6 T/A with 100,000 miles and his is starting to leak, other friend has a '04 Chevy 1500 truck with a rebuilt 5.3 LS motor and his is going out as well. Coincidence I don't think so. Something is awfully fishy??!!

Every single GM car that I have owned had a rear main seal leak. Some were worse than others. I just let them leak. Too much money to fix it, so I would put a cardboard box or rubber mat under the car to catch the oil drips.
The entire oil pan and front carriage had a coat of oil on them. I called it "rustproofing"
My 2005 MN6 ended up being the rear engine cover which comes with a new main seal. I also paid for a new slave cylinder (245.00) while they had it apart. I also had them install the abs of steel. There was no extra labor for the slave cylinder or the abs. They removed everything from the flywheel back to the trans. I went under the car when everything was out. They did not have to support the engine, nor did I need a front end alignment. The alingment was not touched. There were sensors hanging everywhere and the rear shocks were just hanging. I asked the tech if he was going to get it back together without any spare parts. He just laughed and said it wasn't his first corvette to have apart. I was very happy with the repair.

That would be me. Seems like oil can leak for a bunch of different reasons, I was expecting the two day fix but it was not a big deal at all. And it was covered by the 5yr drivetrain warranty, my 07 was beyond the 36 months. But when I bought my '10 I went for the extended maintenance coverage, just to be sure.
Very timely thread. Just notice last week some drops of oil on my garage floor. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow morning. It's an '09 with 15k miles. Really suprised as I never had problems like this on my C1's.
My dipstick reads full so it is minor loss but the floor is going to be a mess.
Had a similar problem with my 2010 GS with 6K miles, turned out to be a leaking low level sender. It was very slow seepage with nothing on the floor. Just happened to notice the pan when checking things out underneath.
Think of it this way. It is one of the joys and privileges of owning a C6. You get FREE oil spots to denote where you parked your car.
I'm just waiting until mine starts leaking. Then I can go through the joy of taking it to my GM dealer.

The problem is inherit in all LS3 and LS2 engines. You have 2005-2010 C6's leaking oil. Some as low as 3k miles, some as high as 30k miles. Again, it is not IF it will leak, it is a matter of WHEN it will leak.
I had an oil leak on my 07 with 25,000 miles, the oil pan was coated, took it in, dealer put die in it told me to drive it for 250 miles then come back, took it back and they discovered the leak coming from the front seal, they had the car for about 2 days, installed a new balancer as mine had a nice wobble to it, they also replaced the pan gasket just for safe measure, and the line tech found that i had a slight leak in my power steering pressure hose, so they over nighted a new hose as well. Didn't get an alignment, when i inquired about it per the forum, I was told that the car didn't need it, that nothing was done to skew the alignment during the repair, I don't know if that's true or not, but the car drives straight so....
PS wait until your due for an oil change before taking it in for the warranty work, you'll get a FREE oil change out of the ordeal
Very true - GM Oil Leak- my 2005 had the oil leak after 20,000 miles - leak-fixed by dealer. Now I have 43000 miles on the only thing leaking now is me. Car was at dealers for 2+ days- under warranty then so I had dealer got me a loaner .

Funny, same story. No, I guess it's not funny. Diagnosis on my '09 today, pan gasket plus an abraiding power steering hose just starting to leak. Dealer states the hose was not placed properly at BG. Part will be in tomorrow and should be ready tomorrow afternoon. The only plus on this is the new oil at no charge as they will not drain and put the old oil back in. Was at 80% anyway. I had planned to have them change the oil on this visit but kept my mouth shut when I knew they had to drain the crank case.
The one thing that gets me is the rental car provided. A base Cobalt for a $73 msrp Vert. My wife got a Cady when her '10 $64msrp Cady needed a computer part. What gives here, A Chevy for a Chevy, a Cady for a Cady.
Damn Cobolt has roll up windows! Haven't seen a car with those in 30 years or more. Kind of pizzes me off in how Chevy treats Corvette customers when it's all GM.
