You know you can get a smart fuse, the ones with the led light on them, for like $8 at a parts store. Blow the fuse and replace the CAGS fuse with the smart fuse. Don't have to crawl under the car and whole thing takes about 5 minutes.
But to answer your question you do not have to unless you really want to.
Thanks for all that replied.. I had the car up installing the frame rail protectors... Installed the skip shift eliminator & all is well now.. MOST of the time I didn't have any problems with it anyways, but I had the part & the car was up on the ramps so I went ahead. No worries now.. I will NEVER hit the 1-4 lockout now.....
I think others have said that it will still light up on your dash - just won't lock out 2nd gear.

Well, I used the smart fuse for 2 years with no problems but then I got a check engine light like some others have reported. It does NOT always work on all cars. So I too, went the traditional route of going under the car. Guess I'm stupid, since only smart people use the smart fuse. Or maybe my car is stupid?

I used the smart fuse for about 2 years with no issues, but then I got a check engine light also, so I put the original fuse back in and just forgot about it. The way I drive, I never get locked out of second anyway.

Just out of curiosity, when that happened was the Smart Fuse still lit up, or had the light in it burned out? If the latter, I would expect that you'd get a CEL since the resistance was no longer in the circuit.
