Anyone out there know of a way to bypass this nonsense?
I have taken a look under the rear end and the reverse mechanism seems to be a mechanical switch. I have thought about just unhooking the reverse contacts and jumping them out, but I have a feeling the car will always think it's in reverse.
Anyone done anything to not have to park the '05 in reverse? I hate it and want to add remote start.
Shut it down in reverse as usual. Find out from others here on the forum how long it takes the car electronics to shut down. Then put it in whatever gear you want to.
I had my car die twice at the dealership because they didn't park it in reverse. I guess the loud *** dinging noise and the message "shift to reverse" doesn't register.
Yea,just shut down in reverse long enough for the car to shut itself down, then switch to whatever gear you want.In reality, that's more of a pita then just shutting down in reverse and leaving it.With all the DBS issues on 05's,I wouldn't take any chances.I got used to it when I had my 05 and still do it sometimes in my 08.
...or hook it up to a battery tender and leave it in any gear you want.
Shut your car down in reverse. Then take your time and the place the tranny in any gear you want. If you don't get the 'shift to reverse' warning upon exiting the car, you're good to go! Only if you go too quickly will you get the warning. A few seconds of delay is all you need from my experience.
DBS even parking in reverse. Doesn't seem to matter. Let the car sit a week over Christmas. Came home to a DEAD battery. If you don't park this car with a trickle charger, you'll be calling a taxi.
There isn't a solution for this.
I just don't get the big issue here. EVERY automatic is put into Park at shutdown. It is a habit that I got used to within 2-3 days. Put a cardboard sign by it at the stealership if you need to.

I was taught to leave manuals in reverse anyway so I don't have an issue with it. I don't understand why so many people complain about it. You just put it in reverse. Not a big deal. When we all drive auto's you have to put them into park. I can think of a few things that I might change about my 05 but are we really too lazy to shift a car to reverse to park it? The car even tells you when you don't so you put it into park so the car won't drain the battery. Some of you guys really crack me up. LOL

Every 2005 MN6 should have the computer reflash done. Your car should not go dead in a week when left in reverse. You may just have a weak battery, but DBS could hit any 2005 MN6 car even when shut down properly in reverse. The TSB did effectively cure the DBS issue for this car.

As far as I'm concerned every 2005 MN6 should not have the flash done unless there's a problem. I've had mine almost six years and never had a battery problem. I don't want GM fixing something that's not a problem. My first battery died in 22 months. I replaced it with an Optima RED top and it's still going strong.
