I put 303 protectant on mine (cashmere) . I will admit I only drive in top down weather. It does seem to make the water ball up like mercury when I wash it. In the Owners Manual, it does say to vac, no stiff brushing ( may cause material to ball). I also use the sticky tape lint roller OCD. And go topless...

Vaccum, good washing with soft brush, dry well, then Ragg Top or 303 Fabric Protector. I do this 2-3 times a year. You can place a painters drop cloth around the top (open, set drop cloth in place, then close top and windows) and tape off rear window with blue painters tape or do as Mike Philips does, spray it on and wipe the overspray off with a soft MF towel.
Raggtop and 303 Protect both offer a two step process and kit that is user friendly and really only needed 1-2 times per year. The first is a cleaner (and you will likely want a small brush too) and the second part is a protectant (wait till roof dries to apply for longest rewards). The roofs on Vettes are fabric as far as material.
Ragg Top once a year, and then I wash it whenever I wash the car. I have a beige top (2010) and so far haven't had any trouble keeping it clean. I don't put the top down if it's wet or damp as that can contribute to mildew.

But my top is black - always do it in the fall before it goes to sleep.
I've used the Ragg Topp products for 4 years now on my cashmere top. I clean the top whenever I wash the car with soft brush. I use the protectant about once a year. I just take a piece of cardboard in one hand to protect the windows and paint as I spray on the protectant with the other hand. Any overspray can be wiped off quickly with a micro fiber towel. Hope this helps.
I don't put any chemicals on the top at all. Over 5 years and it looks perfect!
Since my vert lives outside 24/7/365, I do keep it covered to protect from sun, birds, etc when I'm not driving it. And when I drive in San Diego I'm almost always top down, so the top sees very little "naked" time.
I do use a wide bristle fabric brush (the kind used to brush a coat) to keep it clean. Number one rule: never put a convertible top down dirty - ever.
