Direct Injection 6.2 liter pushrod V8 putting out 470hp and 438 ft-lbs of torque for the 2014 Cadillac ATS-V.
It would surprise me if this car had more horsepower than the same model year Vette. It also shows how potent direct injection is, as I'm assuming that 6.2 isn't too far off from the current LS3.
There's a Caddy out now with More horses then every Vette except the ZR1.I think they're going to the 5.5L direct injection.I do know one thing for sure,we'll all find out in a couple of years.
True but the MUCH heavier CTS-V already puts up GS numbers. This car should be considerably lighter and only slightly underpowered. Much like the M3 to the M5.
I'm also thinking the future will be 5.5L with direct-injection, if for no other reason than to remain in sync with GT2 racing specs. Of course I don't really know, and if I did I couldn't say.
I think what the OP is getting at, is that he foresees the use of this direct injected motor in the future C6 (or C7) applications.
Exactly, and I expect a decent boost in horsepower. If a CTS-V and Z28 can have 556+, and an ATS-V 470... Why should we expect GM's halo car to remain stagnant in HP numbers, with only a drop in weight. With this latest report I wouldn't be surprised if the C7 had Z06 like horsepower and even lesser weight numbers.

Hopefully, next year's vettes, or maybe when the C7 is released, GM will have, as was suggested earlier, a 5.5 DI engine for the vettes. It is for me too, disappointing, irritating, disconcerting, that GM has made their freekin' daddies caddies both equal too, and possible of exceeding the performance of their MAIN ride, so to speak. Opps, guess we are the daddies and grand daddies now. Aggravating to contemplate, huh.

Haha, I understand what you're getting at and you might hate me for saying this buuuuuut I'm 24 and single!
Alright, back on subject. I find this information to be incredibly exciting and a sign of more great things to come from GM. 470hp from Caddy's entry level offering!? That would have been unheard of even 5 years ago.
I think he's talking about the engine. Or are you inferring that the "engine" will be heavier? And it appears GM is positioning Cadillac as the companies HALO division.

Well, you could....but then you'd have to kill us all.
Somehow I never got the impression Chevrolet was GM's HALO division.
My bad I meant "performance division". We all know for other reasons its the HALO division, but who would have thought "performance".
I'm wanting a CTS-V wagon so when I retire next year I can get rid of the SRX and Z06. Why because after 50+ years I'll be able to get the Yellow Lab I've wanted since I was boy back in the 50's and the V wagon will allow me, the wife and new buddy to go places together and play with the big boys.
The subject of the Corvette came up following Whitacre's speech today at the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, Mich. Whitacre was asked who was going to be awareded the next free Corvette, in reference to GM presenting a Corvette to Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galallarga who lost out on a perfect game due to an umpire's bad call.
Whitacre didn't say who would get a free one but did confirm a new Corvette was in the works. Much speculation has surrounded if and when a new one would be launched, particularly in light of the current model's slumping sales, the worst in about five decades.
The GM chairman said the new Corvette "looks quite different. It's totally redesigned inside and out."
