The smell of antifreeze is never a good thing. Came home tonight, looked under the hood of my 2005 & antifreeze is everywhere, including puddling on my garage floor.
Anyone replaced their own water pump? Was it difficult to do? Anything special that I need to know?
Never replaced one on a vette, but have replaced them on several vehicles including my IROC-Z. General procedure is to drain the anti-freeze, remove the drive belt(s), unbolt the water pump, clean off old gasket material from engine, install new water pump. It's also a good idea to replace the thermostat when you have the old pump off because its usually easier to get to the thermostat housing with it off and the old thermostat is probably due for replacement anyway.
Had mine replaced and it was covered under the drivetrain warranty thank goodness. Maybe not that hard to do, but . . . . glad I left it to the mechanic to do.
