Okay here is my 2 cents worth had 05 06 07 08 traded my 04 z06 till i had the ls3 I felt like I was driving a C5 without any power adder ie z06. The Ls3 has more cubic inches and more horse power I felt like I was driving my c5 Zo6 again. I now have an 09 z06 thats what i needed now i feel the need for Zr1 wifee wants me to retire and forget about it.

There is no replacement for displacement and refinements and GM did this in 08 with the LS3 and steering as two of them

OK, I understand the LS3 has better heads, and a bit more displacement, plus NPP = 36 extra HP. But what exactly did they do to the steering?

Improved the steering gear to eliminate slop and deflection. In 2009 they further upgraded the steering by making it variable ratio instead of fixed ratio to make maneuvering at slow speeds more responsive.

I can't tell any difference in the steering between my 2007 Z06 and 2010 GS.....what am I missing?

Not being facetious,it's a serious question.

What differences should I be feeling?

Yes !! those that say the extra HP isn't worth it are kidding themselves. Its funny that almost everyone here strives for that extra HP by adding on things, but if they don't have the LS3 they say the extra HP isn't worth it.

The LS3 also has better potential for power because of the better flowing heads, intake manifold and tract, larger displacement and reinforced block which was designed with FI in mind. I drove an 06 before I purchased my 08 and found a significant difference in those 36+ ponies.
As it is in most cases.. the latest design and updates to engine and car are preferable...

Both are great motors, the LS2 packed a punch but there is more to the LS3 than just the extra 30hp...

The LS3 has different heads and a tweaked cam I belive to achieve that extra HP. IMO the LS3 responds better to mods than the LS2 because of this fact.

e.g. IMO if you were to take an LS2 and LS3 equipped cars both with same stats, and add lets say a full exhaust I think the LS3 would show a slightly more gain than the LS2 because of the different design. I think it would be better to get the LS3 if it fits into your budget, but the LS2 is still a fine choice. Dont be dissuaded by the engine alone, a nicely modded LS2 can pack a powerful punch on the street and strip. If you can find an LS2 equipped car in great shape overall then buy it.

for 5k you get a warranty and a much more refined vehicle...That alone should prompt you to get the LS3.

you will get it back in resale anyway.

Yes on the LS3 extra 30 - 36 HP.
Yes on the TR 6060 MZ6 or MN6 trans.
Yes on the steering.
Yes on the NPP exhaust.
Yes on the CF look center console too, it performs much better on your eyes.

Car reviewers said the steering after 2008 was a bit lighter, quicker and provided better feedback through the steering wheel and the 2009 also provided quicker steering off center as when parking. In your case, perhaps some of the improvements were negated by the G/S weighing some 136 pounds more than your Z06. In any case these improvements supposedly weren't all that noticeable unless you could drive a 2007 or earlier model and then jump immediately into a 2008 or 2009 model for comparison purposes. Of course the 2008 also supposedly provided quicker shifting on both the standard and automatic transmissions, in addition to higher horsepower and torque on the LS3 engine versus the LS2, but again these things probably weren't all that noticeable to the average driver.

See, this is a great thread. Everyone who is saying there is a significant difference in the power between the LS2 and LS3.. 36 HP... I am going to save this thread the next time we have a LS3 or GS thread vs. Z06/LS7 thread, and everyone is saying " you really can't "feel" the difference in the 70HP" between LS7 and LS3 Yet we have people here saying there is a BIG difference between an LS2 and LS3

The Hypocracy cracks me up

It's not that simple.. The power delivery, the gearing, etc all make a difference in how the power "feels". The Z06 does 0-60 in 1st gear..
That is certainly going to feel different to 60 than the coupe. The
torque curve and peak power are different between engines..
The simple HP number don't tell the whole story..
