Default Annoying Problem

I just bought a 2007 C6 hardtop with 47000 miles. The car seriously still looks brand new. Anyway, it has a problem with the rear top latch. The latch pops open when the body flexes like when you pull in a driveway at an angle. It scares the **** out of me. Is this a known problem? Thanks

Never heard of that one before. While I have a Vert now my C5 was a coupe. Never had that issue.

Sounds like the latch needs some adjusting. See your dealer if you can't find someone else locally to work on it.

It looks like the latch hook is threaded and may need to be screwed in a turn? It does grab and pull tight but maybe not tight enough? Sounds like a gun going off. The car fax is totally clean with one owner and no accidents.

I do own that Provost. N7075U. It's a Mk 3A with the stock RR Viper 102. Lots of guys are putting the bigger Vipers in. I also own a Lockheed T-33 N651. It's got the Allison J-33 in it.

If I remember correctly, a new front latch design was introduced in 2008. You might have the old design... maybe someone tried to adjust the rear latch to fix a noisy roof panel (common issue).

You might be able to get the new-design latches under warranty. Anyway, IMO the roof panel needs routine maintenance. Other fixes for a noisy roof:

You are one lucky dude! I got to fly a T-33 once while in Iceland.

If you look where the J-Hook in the rear latch goes into you will see a set screw. Loosen it and then you can adjust the hook.

Based on what you said, my guess is that the small tab that is supposed to lock the rear latch is not catching and the latch handle is popping out, kind of like when you do it on purpose.

With the car sitting still, can you manually pull the latch handle to the down position without actually pressing the release first?

If so, maybe loosening it a bit would help. Maybe the previous owner tightened it too much.

The set screw he mentioned takes a small metric Allen wrench to loosen.

You may be on to something here. The latch does pull the top closed but the button seems to do nothing and does not need to be pushed to open it.
