Anyone had this happen to them? Driving on the interstate yesterday I went to pass someone and when I tried to downshift to 5th I couldn't. I went to 4th and kept the clutch in then went to 5th and in it went. Subsequent tries to go from 6th to 5th all failed. She goes to the dealer next week, thank goodness for warranties.
I've had a 2005 M6 and a 2008 M6 and never had that problem. I would be very concerned. Try the technical forum here. They may have more knowledge. I'm no gear head. Not smart enough. However, as most others have said please do keep us informed. There but by the grace of God goes I. That's my mantra. Good luck.

Didn't happen to me however I think I read here that a member experienced a very similar problem. I think it was related to the reverse lock out solenoid intruding on the gate for 5th. They are really close . May be worth looking into.
the manual does state that its a harder shift to go from 6th to 5th..it naturally wants to hit 3rd...or something like that...they state it in the manual...no worries..u did the right thing and didnt force it
Couldn't get my 2006 M6 to shift into reverse. Dealer had to tear apart the transmission. Thankfully, under warranty. No issues from 5th to 6th on that car, or my 2010.
