Default Sunvisor Universal Garage Door Opener

Was the sunvisor mounted universal garage door opener available on the 3LT & 4LT cars for the 2008 model year supplied by Homelink, or was it the Lear Car 2 U? When did GM drop the Homelink in favor of the Lear?

Thanks a lot for the reply/information. Just picked up a visor from an '06 for my '08 and was wondering if there are going to be any problems in getting it to work since the '08 came with the Lear and the '06 is Homelink.

I have the Homelink with my very early '07. There was quite a bit of grumbling at the time when GM replaced Homelink with Lear, but I don't recall the details.

The Homelink system was dropped in November of 2006 in the 2007 model year and as noted the replacement was the Lear Car-2-U system. As a result you'll find early built 2007 cars (July 2006 to October 2006) with the Homelink and later 2007 built cars (November 2006 to June 2007).

If you can find the visor, the Homelink system is a drop in replacement, it would be plug and play.

The Homelink can be identified by 1 LED over the center button on the visor remote. The Car-2-U system has 3 LED's total (1 over each of the three buttons).

Homelink would connect to anything, even your kitchen can opener LOL

Lear was extremely picky on what it linked to! for me anyway

We had the gen-u-ine Homelink in our 2006 Corvette, and currently have it in our 2005 and 2011 Toyotas. Our 2009 Corvette has the Lear (?) unit and it's worlds better for our older dip-switch garage openers: much more range, Homelink has to be within two car-lengths of the door to work; and less critical on "press time" of the button. With our Homelink, a 1.0 second press on the button isn't enough, a 1.5 second press is too long and reverses the door. Gotta get that 1.005 second push just right.

When we got the 2009, I was going to swap out the visor from our 2006 because everyone was complaining about the Lear unit. I didn't have time for the swap and I'm very glad.

It's Funny that I have a Car2u system in my 2005 Z51. I bought it as a pre-owned so I'm not sure if a previous owner did a swap or not?

Bringing this back from the dead.......our GS does not have the garage door opener option and I would like to add it. Is the visor self contained...meaning are there any other parts I need OTHER than the visor?

Is it as simple as just finding a visor from a Vette with an opener and swapping them out?

Just that easy. I put one on my car. Bought a brand new one on Ebay. 10 minutes to remove and install new one
