The car comes with two fobs and two keys. That's not saying you have both but it came that way and no, the key doesn't have anything special inside. Its for opening the trunk manually and initiating the fob programming sequence.

...and you haven't stopped at a stealership and paid the $50+?
You might try a large True-Value or Ace that has a customer service counter for the B106. And don't bother with Lowes or HD as they just have the pre-loaded cassette type key machines and no one who really knows how to cut a key anyway. It is not an easy key to cut, so check it at the car while you are still at the store.
And EVERYONE should try using their key to make sure it works! Lots of reports of problems. If it turns but doesn't open, the latch cable might be disconnected (see post #34): http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...metal-key.html

The blanks are different for some years, I believe 2005-2007 used a fairly common blank and 2008-2010 use the Saturn one.
None of the hardware stores near me had the saturn blank for our 2009. The local locksmith had one and cut me a key, it wouldn't even fit into the lock.
I got tired of screwing around and ordered the blank from Fichtner Chevy, the local dealer cut it for free! Works fine.

Try Ace True Value Hardware...got 2 done there (one for my wallet) for about $2 or $3 a piece. That was a couple of years ago though...since it is a Saturn blank, finding them is likely getting tougher.
I got a key cut for my 2008. I could not get it into the hatch lock. The problem was that the head part of the key interfered with the body. The locksmith ground away a part of the head and then I could open the hatch. As I recall, the locksmith said it was a Saturn key and that is consistent with the replies above.
As I was the originator of this thread I feel I should report that I did find the key but it took some searching. Obviously it is not a smart key but Lowes & Home Depot did not have the blank. Soooo I reluctantly called the "stealership" and they had it for $11. Before I paid their $11 I tried Wally World and they had it and fixed me up. I did walk straight out and try it in all three key holes (truck, console and glove box) and all 3 worked. Thanks for all of your comments!
