So I'm gonna start autox this year, and I am new, I've read the autox thread ad I know there is no reason to upgrade anything for awhile, however I have brand new run flat tires on my car and I was thinking of looking for a set of wheels and putting some non runflts on just for autox. Question is, I'm looking for a set of wheels that will fit, 18 front 19 back, and what are some good tires for running that won't break the bank. Biggest reason for this is that I don't want to ruin my daily driver tires, what do you guys think?

Sounds like a lot of trouble to me. A lot of guys will swap over to track tires at the event. How often will you be going? If once per month, your street tires will probably last a year or two. I got 15k miles out of the GY's on the C6 but only 7k on the Z. Non runflats can be a lot cheaper as you say.
I bought a brand new set of Gumby's for $400 with TPS off the C6 parts forum. And a set of used runflat tires for $100 to autox with. I also didn't want to eat up my street tires. So now I change wheels and trailer or drive the car to an event and go at it without destroying good tires. You might be able to get a set of used wheels and tires even cheaper. Just look/advertise for them on the forum or Craig's list. Have fun!
in my opinion from my experience of running in autocross events for the past 10 years, you won't ruin your street tires running them at autocross days. Most autocross courses are set up so that your run time is a little more than 1 minute. You'll get between 8 - 16 runs in over the day. So you're likely to only get 20 minutes of hard driving with a fair amount of cooling off time between runs. So I don't think its worth getting another set of street tires unless you're trying to get the very best stickiest street tire for going for competition points in your class.
Is this the first time in your life you try this? Then don't do nothing, just go with what you have. Until you become a regurlar, don't bother spending money on new rims and tires. Mostlikely, you'll be terrible and would just be wasting your money on expensive rubber.
After you have improved your times and want to become competitive, then you can start thinking about new rubber and rims, that you change everytime you get to the event.
Seat time, seat time, seat time. That's the 3 biggest investments you can make. You won't ruin your street tires, especially if you are only running 3-4 events a year. I ran that many events ons treet tires, and drove 3000 miles moving to Canada and my Firestones still look new.
After you are competitive on street tires, then invest in track wheels and tires. I have a set of Z06 repops with Hoosier A6's, but I have been autocrossing, off and on, for 22 years? Damn, I'm old!!
Be sure you check the rules that govern the class of cars that you will compete in. If you want to compete with several organizations the rules can be vastly different. Get a rule book and talk to the other participants and gain from their experience. You will save both money and frustration in the long run.
