After much consideration Im going with a GS coupe instead of an older Z06. I am leaning toward the transparent top. Anybody know if it is tinted or clear? Can it be easily tinted?
http://www.truecar.com is a site which in my opinion is great as far as determining a fair price.
Ill be going 3LT for the HUD function. Color?? Either cyber grey or VY.
Love the stealth look of the grey especially with the grey rims.
Ill keep you all posted,
I do want to thank all of you for putting up with my multiple posts. Just so much info to be had for a first time Vette owner (to be).
Since you haven't filled out your profile (hint, hint!) we don't know where you're located. If you're in a hot climate, you may or may not be happy with the translucent top during the summer months as the cabin can get quite toasty. One way some folks have dealt with it is to get a headliner that attaches with suction cups to use during the summer months. Another thing to consider: If you go with only the translucent top, you'll pay $750 (M.S.R.P.) less dealer discount. If at some point after you get the car you decide that you also want the painted top, expect to pay around $1900 for it since the only way to get a new one after the fact is to have a dealer order all of the individual parts, paint the outer panel, and then assemble everything. Painted panels are not available as complete units after the fact. Thus, going that route, you'd ultimately spend around $2650 for both tops.
Conversely, if you order a car with only the painted panel, it wouldn't cost you anything extra since it comes standard with the car. If at a later date you decide you want the translucent panel, it's available as a complete unit through the dealer's parts department. Forum vendor Gene Culley has recently had a special deal on them at around $1100 with free shipping. In that case, you'd have both panels for just $1100 (less than if you ordered both panels with the car and MUCH less than if you ordered the car with only the translucent panel).
Bottom line: If you have any doubt as to whether or not you'll ever want the painted panel, order the car with it. It will cost much more after the fact. If you're not sure about the translucent one, just get the painted one at $0 since you can always get the translucent one later at an even better price than if you order it with the car.
Get the transparent top and by a hood liner for $149 bucks and dont look back. You will never have miss having the hard top. My hardtop hasnt been on my new GS since I bought it. The liner+transparent top will keep the heat out and is all youll ever need.

The transparent top is lighter and looks better from outside because it blends with the rest of the glass. The padded head liners look great in place from inside and block all the heat as well as absorb interior noise. It is the only top you will ever need or want to use.
