Or in this case, locating. Does anybody know how to locate a car using the VIN? I looked up the number in the Corvette Registry, found a picture of the car but it is listed as "owner unknown." I would like to contact the owner of this car if I can. Thanks in advance for any help.
Maybe post the photo of the car and the VIN in the wanted/for sale column of the forum? Offer as accurate a description as you can and why you're trying to locate it.
Good luck - - I doubt anyone in law enforcement will run it - - totally prohibited these days as noted.
With the new "privacy" laws, this will be tough to get unless you have friends in law enforcement.
But how does XM radio find you. I bought a used Vette last summer and it didn't take them long to find me. Just today I received a marketing letter from them and they had my VIN#
CORT--I'll drop down to the C3 forum and post as you suggest. I had the oppertunity to buy this car 2 years ago and didn't--wish now I had, so whether I can or can't afford it, just want to see if the current owner is interested in selling.
R&L'sC6--very interesting thought, I bet there is a way if you can find it.

It's different regulations for a business.
I work at a dealership and we have to take certain precautions to protect customer privacy.
It's not just public info. Just like anyone who works at a bank has access to ALL of your sensitive personal info and accounts.

tried to get a listing on VIN 30837S111229 for my first vette (63 SWC) now located in Toledo Ohio. Got Title #, mileage, price paid but not the owners name or address. Ohio BMV won't release name or address to me. Someday I will prevail on it.
Here in Florida that stuff is all public info under the Sunshine Laws, provided it's registered in Florida.
cor24vete
I'm in Illinois, last known location on the car i'm looking for was Kansas City, Mo. I haven't looked up the laws of either state yet. Since it's a Vette, current owner might be a forum member and see his pics on the C3 site. I'll just hang out and see what info turns up.

'63 split window is pretty rare. If your trips north (vacation or whatever) can coinside with a major Corvette event in Ohio, you have a chance of finding the car there. I'm sure the owner will be close by.
Good luck!

Reason: Don't know what happened here but my earlier quote answers just showed up in the wrong place.

But it would be so much easier for a LEO anywhere to run that VIN & send me a PM. That way I know for sure w/o traveling 1K miles on a treasure hunt. Now you do give me hope in that I can review our RegionalForum for events in the spring/summer for Toledo. A spotter could be on the lookout. Haven't thought of that angle. thnx
I plan to to see that particular car again, which was located by member Tom to be in Toledo. I horse traded my 62 Bubble Top Bel Air for the Vette + cash right on the DC beltway shoulder in front of an 'emergency parking only' sign. To me it was an emergency. Less than 6 months later I scrambled to sell cause Uncle Sam needed flat footed bodies per LBJ. I made it back but my good buddy Frank Schmautz from Worchester MA was KIA less than a month > arrival in-country. They named a park after him in Worchester, another good destination perhaps.
Promptly bought another mod 63 SWC on return home. Looked like a 67 BB in Goodwood Green repaint but for the split. 2 more SWC's followed. Hope C7 2013 is a split for yr one to mark the 50th anniv of the icon. Could be #5 haha
My first one was modded out by 66 with then current hot color Nassau Blue. A trip to Carlisle and Toledo sounds good to me if it works out. Got pics and bank note + my owners story to pass on to the title holder. Wouldn't that be to buy back! Or at least check out?
Sentimental rant over

cor24vette; Ya, way cool to find cars you previously owned. There are several that I would like to buy back but will probably just bend the owner's ear about my story with the car. My wife suggests that you might have luck with a google search of Corvette clubs in Toledo, get a contact number and see if the club can help you locate the car.
I bought 3 new cars from a small dealer from the late 60s through mid 70s then moved away and hadn't been there since. I called the dealer in January and found the grandson of the man I had bought the cars from was now the owner. He remembered me, was very friendly and willing to help. He agreed to search old records for VIN s and any other records of the cars I had bought. He found the numbers but no other records but didn't mention any ability he had to locate the cars as we talked about my search. Perhaps I'll give him a call and ask directly.

Happy hunting
The underlined is me. But yep I'd buy it if the price was right. Even back then the car was all wrong. Wrong color, wrong trans, wrong heads (283), if not the entire engine. Wonder if them 3 or 4 holes I plugged with screws and ole inner tube are still on the fuel tank. That was an emergency plug on the hwy btw using yankee ingenuity
So I would have to deducts points for some of that mod stuff , done by the owner before me
Thank the wife for the point to google CC in Toledo
