It went away when GM came out with the LS series engines and changed the firing order. That is why NO exhaust system will give you the sound of old school V8 Muscle on late model GM car.
Listen to the B&B Bullets and tell me what you think. I am sure there is a soud clip somewhere.. you can go even further...add longtube headers to these cars, and no cats... you will get rumble.

I suppose that's the price you pay if you develop power and not sound

How about the sound of 67 side pipes on small and big block. Now thats what i'm talking about. But they changed the firing order on the LS engines so diff sound.

everyone's "ears" are different. To say there are no aftermarket kits that don't have a rumble though.. listen to the Bullets or Borla, GHL, SLP Loudmouths.
The small blocks of the day also had different cats, different exhaust set ups, and in some cases different firing order, which also impacts exhaust note.
Bingo, The motor's valve timing (overlap) in the LS motors produces a different "tone" from that of the american muscle of old. Find someone that has a Magnaflow system. They supposedly give as close to the 60's/70's muscle sound as you can get out of these motors. I've heard Cammed C6's now they sound
What happened to sound we used to get out of a small block chevy? All the aftermarket ehaust systems for C6's I've heard so far have a ricer-like sound. Is there a system out there that will bring back that American iron rumble for the C6?
The muscle cars of the 60's had the mufflers (glass packs) closer to the motor, with a long piece of pipe behind them. That longer pipe behind the mufflers gave the cars a different sound. New vette has pipe all the way to the back then mufflers then tips. The two designs have different sounds all together.
I like the old sound too, but not without changes to the exhaust layout.
This is a first for me. First time I've ever heard that a Corvette sounds 'ricer'. I always thought of ricer as a miniscule OHC 4 cyl with a fart can that sounds like a 7000rpm lawnboy coming down the road.
My car rumbles, no roars, with headers and NPP.
I just changed my Ford F150 5.4 Triton exhaust to Magnaflow.. now there's a mean sounding rumble. I can't believe how mean it sounds. Obviously a different situation with Ford but it does have that nasty growl to it..... Whole thing cost me under 500 bucks!!! Don't think I could ever get that kind of sound from my LS2.....
I don't care who you are 427R Mustangs sound tough. That said, the NPP on my new GS makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside when I mash the go peddal with a huge smile on my face to boot!!!
