from what i've read on these threads the current gs is basically a varied version of the now defunct Z51, not better.
Your are reading correctly, i was lucky enough to find a new corvette coupe with the z51 option in Oct. 09 and saved several thousand dollars verse buying a 10 grandsport coupe with virtually the same set up.

But it's not defunct it's still there, the GS is it now.
