My 09 VY (7500 mi.)coupes mirror housings are pitting (pinhead size). Anyone else notice theirs doing the same? I'll post up some pics later. All the pitting is below the halfway point of the mirror, which leads me to believe it was caused by the front tires kicking up dirt. No, I haven't been on any gravel roads. Thanks for your responses.

I figure you're talking about the mirror housings as opposed to the actual mirrors. I'm not sure what it is, but I get more little nick marks in those housings than I do in the front of the car. You might be on to something in considering the front tires as an additional source of the paint nicks.
You could invest in either mirror pockets from Speed Lingerie or maybe the lightweight stretch nylon pockets that C5 Creations make. Or maybe add the GM splash guards.
Typical C5/C6 road rash from the car's own tires. Check your fenders behind the wheel wells, lower doors, rocker panels and rear quarters. If the mirrors are showing the damage it must be visible in the other places. People are always worrying about damage to the front end and hood from other cars which is miniscule to the cumulative damage your own tires cause. Mud guards help a lot. Look at what Apsis has.

My 09 coupe, which is a daily driver has no pits on mirror housing. It has clear bra on mirrors. It is worth it. I also have, GM mud guards. My windshield has small stone chips from 50 mile daily roundtrip on I75.

That's what puzzles me. I see more nicks on the mirror housings than I do on the fender paint behind the wheels.
Common problem on C-5's am C-6's. When the front wheels are turned it is a clean shot for road debris to impact the mirrors. As others have suggested, get some "mirror muffs" that cover the outside of the mirrors and slip on and off rather easily. There are leather ones and nylon ones. I personally use the nylon ones but my car is not a daily driver.
thanks for your replies. that'll teach me to go out on I-80 and do 75+ without some sort of protection on the mirror housings. I've got mirror bras but wasn't thinking I guess. Don't let it happen to any of the rest of you. P.S. tried to get pics but camera too cheap to show anything that small........

mine are flawless... 9k miles. multiple coats of "you know what" on them does the trick..
I have to admit, i do practice defensive driving when it comes to preventing road rash.. staying away from big rigs, pick ups and suv's that have tall tires and not splash guards, etc.
