I have been reading all of the posts about the ceramic pads and how they reduce the dust. May want to do it on my new GS. I have the factory manuals and it looks like a piece of cake to replace the pads, front and rear. Just take the pins out and pull the pads and drop the new ones in. May have to push the pistons in, but it looks very easy. Is it that easy, or am I missing something??
very easy...I replaced my Z06 pads with Posi Quiets very happy with them virtually dust free.... I am getting ready to try some different ceramics on my C5 after years of Hawks I picked up new rotors and pads from Brakemotive's special ...going to try the Powerstop Ceramics
Simple... remove one caliper mounting bolt, swing caliper out of the way, remove the old pads, clean and lubricate pad supporting surfaces and the backs of the pads themselves (lubricant ususally provided by pad manufacturer in the pad box) , drop in new pads, collapse the caliper piston into the caliper bore with C-clamp, swing the caliper back into position and re-install mounting bolt(s) and torque to spec ( 24-25 lbs ) for base C6. Done... recommend installing speed bleeders while you are there and bleed brake system...another 20 minutes for the whole car...cheap insurance.
If he has the Brembo style setup, from what I remember with my prior Porsches, it is just two pins, and you pull the pads out, slide new ones in. (Do have to push piston in). Easy Squeezy.
If you buy the a/c delco ceramics,,,,,clean up and use your stock sheet metal retainer clips. the ones that came with the new pads were really cheesey. I didn't like the way they snapped in place and I was worried about the clip rubbing on the rotor. The stock ones are stainless steel and mount much more securely. A minor glitch,,,,but wheel noises can drive you nuts.
