Default GPS screen issues ??

On my 2009 Coupe the GPS screen goes from a full screen view to a split screen view by itself. I've now had it to two dealers and neither can "duplicate the problem", which is their explanation on the repair order. I tell them it takes a bit of driving time from when they turn on the GPS but in each case they claim "there are no codes" so they don't drive the car. I'd like to know if anybody has had issues with the split screen showing up by itself. One thing I'm trying to consider/explain is that I once had the screen go completely black, and "another" dealer (who is now closed due to GM) did a GM update to correct the problem and I can't confirm this split screen issue started before or after the factory update. If anybody has had the "black screen" update done please let me know, and if you've had any issues. I'm closing in on my 3/36 expiration and want to fix it.

As cowboy implies, it's normal and you might want to read the manual.

There are three different split screen views...one is showing two maps. The other two show either turn information in advance or POI information...both in the right panes and only during a trip in progress. Let me add, there is also a turn notification screen that shows up real close to a turn like within a mile or so...again, during a trip.

If you haven't done so, read the GM Nav manual and talon90's tutorial here, to be sure it isn't just a setting selected.

If there really is something wrong, sometimes a dealer will be impressed by pictures or a video that show the problem. Just don't crash while doing the photography.

I am saying that when I set the screen to "full view" using the screen setting tab, it will on it's own, go to a split screen. I understand and accept that in the full screen view it will split to show the "upcoming turn" but that is not what I'm saying on the GPS. After the screen is set to "full view" and after it shows "next turn" and goes back to full screen view, it will sometimes then adjust to a split screen which usually shows streets coming up.

Does this happen only when you're actually in "guidance" mode? Or does it also happen when you're driving with the screen in navigation display mode but you're not actually using it to navigate you to a destination?

Only while using the GPS, otherwise there is no issue

OK. I'm still not 100% sure that your unit is malfunctioning but you might try this: Plug in a destination that's not too far from home (so that this doesn't end up taking you a ton of time); make it one that takes you on a freeway and where you'll pass a few exits. With the screen in single screen mode, have the system navigate you from home to your destination. While en route, note your location(s) when it switches to what you're referring to as "dual screen". Repeat the same drive two or three times. If the screen switches at the same point(s) every time you make the drive, then I'd bet that there's no malfunction; it's just changing modes because it's being cued to show you a new piece of information. Give it a try.
