Default Hatch light question

Are the hatch lights supposed to come on by themselves without opening the doors. My lights don't unless I open the doors.....the 2nd question is where is the switch, on the locking mechanism? Can't find any wires loose or how it activates.

2006 owner's manual, page 3-19.

Courtesy Lamps
When any door or the hatch/trunk lid is opened, the
interior lamps will go on unless it is bright outside.
You can also turn the courtesy lamps on and off
by pressing the instrument panel brightness ****.
No other switch than the instrument panel **** at your left knee. No other way to turn on or off the hatch lights without opening the door.

I guess I should have been more articulate with the question. And I did read the manual before posting....

If you open the hatch without opening the doors my hatch lights don't come on....while the hatch is open, if I open the doors, the lights come on...I thought they always came on by opening the hatch, w/o opening the doors, but it has been since last summer since I opened the hatch..

I never noticed whether the hatch lights came on when I opened the rear hatch on my C6s or not. However, the owner's manual indicates they should.

Wait for someone else to respond about theirs.

I thought they did. the manual says they do....that is why I was looking in the lock area for a contact / switch that was loose or disconnected....couldn't find one...

Just went out and checked. Doors closed, popped the hatch and I have lights. So, you should too. Can't help with a solution, but confirm you may have an electrical gremlin.

Good luck!

Thanks...that is what I thought...now just have to figure out where and how it activates the lights. I'm thinking it is in the lock area.

If you press unlock on the fob the lights in the hatch will go on when you open it, otherwise it seems it depends how long it has been since a door was opened if the hatch lights will go on or not. I have leds, not sure if that would make a difference.
