I know we can't watch dvd's but it would be really slick if we could use the nav screen to dial out. Is there such an interface or anything to accomplish this?
I don't have Nav, so have no idea how it works. But do have Onstar on a 2007. And barely know how to work it. But you push the Onstar button, say 'Dial', and then speak the number, quickly, as you would normally say it aloud. It speaks the number back to you, if it's correct, say Yes, and the number is dialed.

My 2008 Porsche C4S had that capability and I really liked how it worked.
Not real impressed with the bluetooth implementation on my 2011 Z06. However, I did not buy it for the bluetooth.
Just had the OnStar on my '05 upgraded from analog to digital, fairly painless, couple of hours at the dealer and about $220 which included one year of OnStar, I like it already. They give you 100 free minutes of phone use good for the one year subscription plus another 30 minutes good for 2 months. And they assign you a phone number, people laugh when I tell them my car has it's own phone #. They also email you a diagnostic report for the car every month plus a bunch of other perks, I'm pretty much hooked!

Lol really?
We know that, try doing it at speed in a vert.
On screen dialing would be super. Mind you, so would real speakers.
Surely there must be some mod to get around this, even if it's an OEM processor or screen.
Guys tried since the nav came out, but no one had any luck. There are lock pics and add ons that allow it, with an external DVD, but nothing that facilitates the use of the factory unit, so far.
You know there is a very easy bypass for that, right?
Yes. I was speaking only for a person who wouldn't know about it.
As for the DVD question that came in after this, strange that we can't watch a DVD in our's but Caddilacs can. Obviously its not that large of a safety issue. There's lots of times I would like to listen to a movie where watching would not be wise...long trips and etc..even the PAL, will not access a movie on an Ipod even though its just audio that I'm wanting. I have like 35 movies in my Ipod but no way to listen to them without using an FM transmitter. Seems if GM can allow DVD's in Cadi's they should allow it in ours. Just change out the CD player to a DVD, leaving the NAV DVD alone.
I do not see the problem with OnStar as it is: You tell it your favorite people to call and their numbers which are put into it's memory. Simple. If it is a number not in memory, just speak the number. For my GF, I have stored 3 different numbers and it always calls the number I tell it to! I use it instead of a blue tooth cell phone as Calif has a no hands on cell phone law. At $5 per month all in [for 100+ minutes], that is much cheaper than Sprints lowest cell phone program of $29.95 for 200 minutes.

I have a C6 coupe & I never take off the top! I can imagine that with a vert or roof off coupe, there could be some difficulty in using voice commands to OnStar! But with windows up & roof on, I have no problems.

If you are sitting or driving in town, it is fine. Get to speed and you may as well shout out the window, even with the top on.

Have you trained your OnStar voice recognition by lowering the top and letting it hear your voice along with the wind noise. By the way it is easier to store nametags than callout numbers to dial and the nametags can be the kind that are easy for the voice recognition module to recognize when there is a lot of noise in the background.
