At work right now. get in to go to lunch, push the start button and message center says service column lock, no start. volt gauge reads 13V,
everything else works. Only have 7000 miles, got car 3 days ago. Im now waiting for the flatbed to the dealer ! hope this is now a wave of things to come 1
Is the lock physically not releasing? Can you turn the wheel? If the wheel won't turn try turning it "pretty hard" left and right against the lock, like a slow rocking back and forth. It may encourage the lock to pull the pin and release. Then try starting again. It has worked for a few others.
But the column lock is one of the "problem" issues of the '05 manual trans cars.
well they just picked ti up on the flat bed. thanks for the bad news about the future steering column problems. hope it does not happen again after the fix. the dealer gave me a 30 day bumper to bumper warranty.
Yeah, well screw them, they drive boring lame cars !! Funny , I never had a lick of problems with my previous 5 mustang gt's. buit after the vette I'm a vette guy forever.
Just got it back from the dealer. They updated (flashed)the PCM and replaced a relay, also did the active handling recall. DIC now reads high 13's on volts. for the first few days I had the car it read only 13v most of the time.
They also gave me a copy of the service history, this is a 2005 w/ 7000 miles . Looks like the previous owner had the battery replaced at 3800 miles and 5800 miles, probably sat in his garage seldom driving. They also replaced the PCM at 3900 miles and the cylinder clutch actuator and the fuel level sensor. At 2500 miles they replaced the outside left side mirror.
Tomorrow I'm buying the GMPP 36 month 24k mile extended warranty for peace of mind, even if nothing ever breaks down the road. Also replacing the battery this weekend even though it never died on me I want fresh juice !!
Keep it on a battery tender, that helps. But just so you know for the future, you don't need to flat bed the thing. Just pop the hood and disconnect the battery for about 30 seconds or so and reconnect it. This will reset the computer and you'll actually hear the column lock reengage as the computer syncs itself again with everything. Then go hit the start button again, it will fire right up. I had a 2005 too .
