Default What do you guys think of using Amsoil?

I just switched from a die hard Mobil 1 5w-30 to Amsoil 5w-30. The local napa store had it so I figure I hear all this good stuff about it. I buy seven quarts and WOW I noticed my engine gettin a lil more oil pressure and there seems to be better acceleration. Anyway just wanted to hear other opinions?

Its good stuff...I used it in my LT4 and C5. When I changed transmission and differential lubricants it was my first choice. I have a C6 automtic now...it sees nothing but Mobil 1.

Not worth the change but no harm if you feel it is better.

I'm kinda lost on that statement. If your referring to Amsoil they sell lots of different products for different usage and applications. There's lots of Amsoil products I don't need. But there are others I do. If you can get by with just one product great. I can't. www.amsoil.com

Have used AMSOIL in all of my vehicles since 99 and am very satisfied with the lubricants' performance. I can tell you that it (Severe Gear 75W90) was the only gear lube that solved the diff chatter in my 99 coupe AND did the same thing for my 06. Since I first started using AMSOIL in my vettes, I have noticed slight increase in oil pressure and cooler engine temps, smoother shifts at all points in the AT using their ATF, and a quiet diff. I change my oil every 5k miles and notice better viscosity and lighter color (less break-down) in the AMSOIL 5W30 during drainage, than other products that I have used for the same life cycle and driving conditions. "Subdriver" can really fill you in with data and customer observations. He is the AMSOIL guru.

Clearly I'm biased now, but made the same decision after losing a motor in my first year of SCCA T1 class racing and been very pleased with AMSOIL ever since and now use it in everything I own that has an engine from my weed wacker (sp?) to my Vette.

Did some used oil analysis in my LS2 powered CTS-V daily driver for several years and found lower wear results than with the M1.
Cadillac CTS-V Used Oil Analysis - AMSOIL 0w30
Note: 6/10/07 analysis was M1 and the rest AMSOIL 0w30. Wear metals are primarily aliminum, iron, copper, lead.

And, FYI, I can probably get you AMSOIL for less than you can pick it up locally even with shipping via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program which allows you to buy at dealer wholesale, about 25% below retail. Drop me a PM if interested.

I do not think the change from Mobil 1 5w-30 to Amsoil 5w-30 will effect engine oil pressure or engine performance. Both brands are good oils.

Part of an oil's function is to hold contaminants is suspension so they get drained when you do an oil change. If the oil isn't holding those contaminants in suspension, then they are collecting in your engine and not being removed during the oil changes. Dark oil means the oil is funtioning as intended.

An excellent product line with numerous speciality applications. I only use Amsoil (engine, tranny, diff) in my C6 and use high phosphorus/zinc Amsoil synthetic in my ZR-1 with a LT5 engine. With Amsoil (gear lube and additive) in both C6 and ZR-1 diff NEVER had chatter etc. Highly recommend Amsoil

This is always the case as stated above, but there are, or can be other factors. One of which is that some engines, either by design or build, are more efficient or simply do a better job of combustion. Therefore, for the same number of hours in engine or miles driven, one engine to another, they "pollute" the oil less. Which results in lighter oil color.

I also doubt that in the same engine the change of oil brand affects the measurable efficiency.

Although I appreciate the clarification of "an oil's function", the post was meant to indicate user observations. I could have included professional performance evaluations and statistics from PMEL labs, but I don't think that's what the OP was looking for. And like all 'oil/lubricant' threads...there are several opinions.

You wont notice a change till you bust down the engine which will never happen. So It's better to spend your money on BLING which is quick for the eye to see.
