Default Bummer, hail damage

Drove to DC yesterday for a ceremony, took the Vette because I wasn't expecting bad weather. Was inside when we hear a loud pounding on the roof. Someone comes in wet and we ask if it's raining hard? They say, "Yeah, hail too."

Still raining when I left so I couldn't see anything and pretty dark when I got home. Working today, was walking by and mentioned the hail to coworker. So we look at it in the bright sunlight and it looks like the hail left some little pockmarks in the paint. Hood, top of front fenders, rear deck, and the transparent top seems to have some extra dings.

Gotta get home and wash it to see what I got. Called a friend who had a car next to mine (Mercedes) and he said he had no damage.

I'm hoping, but not expecting, that it's just some sort of sticky road crud I picked up. Guess I'll know in a bit. That won't explain the top dings I know but I'm trying to be optomistic.

Sorry to hear of your treatment by mother nature.
Hope it's not too bad.
Could happen to any of us.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I have no experience with hail on the Corvette, thank goodness, but would have hoped that the SMC material used on the vette body would be more resilient than metal. Let us know the outcome.

It's funny, I had told DW I intended to drive it only if it wasn't raining -- just didn't feel like washing it again :-)

Shoulda, coulda, woulda....

I'll know soon enough.

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate run in with mother nature. Hail is a big worry when storms roll in. Had a car in a hail storm. It looked fine until it dried. Then it looked like a golf ball. Fortunately my insurance agreed that it should be fixed like new. They had to replace the hood, but in the end it looked great. I was wondering if a Vette would stand up to hail better than a metal car. Anyway, good luck.

I had a C5 a few years back that got pounded with 'dime' size hail. Stood there and watched, helplessly unable to do anything about it.

Other 'steel' cars got some pretty good dimples, but mine escaped any damage. Just bounced off of it. Maybe a very small spot or two with very small dimple to the paint, but if you didn't know what you were looking for would have never seen it. My biggest concern was busting out the back glass. Fortunately it didn't!

Good Luck -put up some pics if you can see damage...

What a Bi*ch. Hope it's not too bad. Happened to my wife's DD a few years ago. We just left them. There must have been at least 15 to 20 of them. Good luck.

Yep, the hail left some divits. Chipped the paint, looks like. No dimples, just chipped paint.

Real small but it leaves a white mark so they really stand out.

Got just about every panel some where. Drivers door the only place I don't see one. I'll get some photos up soon.

Might use those photos, thanks. I downloaded the historical weather reports from Andrews AFB. They show the storm moving through but don't specifically mention hail.

Sorry to hear about the damage. I'm really surprised to hear it since you mention a Mercedes didn't get any damage.

I got caught in the epic storm that hit Phoenix early last October and it hailed like h*ll. Marble sized that seemed never to end. No damage at all.

Sorry to hear about the hail damage. I can relate. My '09 was totalled by an Oklahoma hail store. $29,500 worth of damage.

I was in DC on Saturday for the cherry blossom festival, was walking around outside and it started to hail, thankfully it didn't hail that bad at the festival and my car was in NJ tucked away in the garage.
