Default Cabin Fan Programming

I need some help with understanding the programming of the auto operation of the cabin fan. I've searched but found nothing and read my manual to no avail. My problem is the fan in the cabin turns on by itself after I've been running the A/c and then shut the car off. I've read some posts in the past that you can program the fan to come on to dry out the evaporator and help eliminate the musty odor from the water sitting there. I would like to de-program mine so it doesn't come on after I've turned the car off. Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Yes, it is called (seriously) the "after-blow" function. The only way to turn it on or off is to use the Tech 2 device... most dealers have it. Just take it to a dealer and tell them you want it turned off. But I have to question why you would want to do this. It only runs for a measly 4 minutes, and does dry out the evaporator, thus minimizing the likelihood of bad odors developing in your A/C. I had mine turned on, and am glad I did. It only runs in specific situations, e.g. temps high enough, etc.

My reasoning is that mine runs a lot longer than 4 minutes and I'm afraid I'm going to come out to a dead battery some day. Is the time duration also programmable?

No, the time is a fixed 4 minutes. There are no adjustments. After-blow is either turned on or it is not. If it is turned on the fan will operate between medium and high for 4 minutes after the engine has been shut off. The outside temperature must be above 70F. The A/C must have been on for more than 2 minutes. The engine must be off for at least 45 minutes, and the system voltage must be above 12 volts. I would think that last requirement would eliminate your concern.

I appreciate all the feedback. I'm now wondering why mine runs longer than 4 minutes?

Are you sure its longer than 4 minutes. 4 minutes is a long time when you are waiting for something to happen and can seem much longer than the actual time. Time it with your watch or some other time piece and see how long it takes.

If I read it correctly, the fan doesn't start until 45 min. after shutdown. Is that when your fan starts? Have you timed it? If so, how long does it run? If it's different than stated, you may have to take it in.
