Looking for the American autobahn? Head over to Texas, then. The autosphere is abuzzed with reports that the Texas House (God bless them!) has signed off on legislation to increase the speed limit on some of its highways to 85 mph.

Not quite the Autobahn where you can be "cruising at 110mph and get passed by all kinds of funny looking cars... But at least it's a way to get across Texas a little faster....
Utah currently has several "test" sections on I-15 where the speed limit is 80 MPH. So far accidents and tickets are down and it's been a big success.
Yup...a complete success....in spite of the predictions of disaster from all the nannies. They have just put up more test sections and will soon have hundreds of miles of 80mph on I-15. All without the predicted bloodbath...amazing eh?
Just wait until the old fogeys find it and think it's okay to drive 70-75 in the left lane.
Another side to the Autobahn is that tickets are issued for driving slow in the left lane.....which is reserved for passing ...as it should be here...!! Pass on the left, then move over to the right...
I went to grad school in North Texas. Fond memory of 200 of us streaking through the park on a Saturday afternoon. We didn't much care about speed limits or even cars back then

It is actually a good portion of I15 between Nephi and Cedar City now. Pretty much all except the mountain passes.
I live around dallas... speed limit is currently 70 in areas outside the metropolis.
Got a warning today for 78 in a 70... most people drive at least 70 anyways, an 80 mph speed limit would have saved me from getting pulled over and wasting 10 min.
I personally wouldnt drive much faster than 80 anyways because fuel economy suffers and with recent gas price hikes who'd want that?
