Default NAV DVD Update

Does anyone know what version DVD NAV Chevy is up to? I'd like to call for an update, but don't just want 'one' version up.

You buy the one for your model/year and that will be the current disk.

They ship the lowest version they have in stock to people who order. The last time I got one the newest version had been included in new cars for over 9 months before you could order it. Just call and ask them. They can tell you what version is currently shipping and if it is getting close, they may have an estimate for when they will run out of those and start shipping the next version.

Newer version usually becomes available some time between production of new model year (~July) and following January.

Well, I have a 2006, and when I bought it, Iwas told I'd get 5 free updates. Turns out GM backed out of this deal back in 2009, and welched on this deal. I never got notified, and only got one update. Even if I would have gotten one every year, I would have never gotten the 5 I was promissed. New updates are $200/ea.

One of the several reasons I stopped using the GM nav system and now use *free* Google nav on my Android phone.

My '05 didn't have the disc when I bought it last year. I ordered it out of a sense of completeness and frustration and the map year is 2009 and the copyright year is 2010. Version 7.00. Good luck

Since the NAV in the Corvette pretty much sucks, not sure there is any value in having the "latest and greatest" disc. Definitely no value if you have to pay a few hundred bucks for it.

Not being nasty. Do a search on the NAV. It is years behind those available in cheaper cars.

For my general purposes, little I use it, the disc in my 2006 worked as well as the one in my 2010. The disc only (supposedly) adds new points. It does not change the limited functions of the NAV screen.

So, unless you need to find a friend in some new subdivision created in the past three or four years, they ain't that much different. New York is where it always has been, etc.

My point to the OP, don't get too hung up on what version of the disc you have. For general purposes, probably not that different.

Again, not intending to be sarcastic. Just think upgrading is not worth the money.

I agree completely with the last post. I stop updating when my 3 year old street wasn't on the map but was on my IPhone maps. I now only use Navigon or Google map on the IPhone. I am sure they work just as well on most smart phones. Plus now you can get your passenger to input directions while you are moving.

The biggest difference from year to year in the NAV disc is the addition of more and more POIs (points of interest). These are nothing more than advertising from restaurants, gas stations etc etc. The addition of streets happens but it happens very slowly. Some people say that they live in a new subdivision that is not on the map yet. I would say that the subdivision where one lives is the least important info on any map...as one should know how to get to one's home without a NAV unit. A NAV disc is necessary to operate the unit, but to spend $200 on a newer disc seems to me to be a waste of money.

The 2008 nav disc in our early 2009 was missing a major section of new-ist interstate (I-355) in my area, so spending the money for a 2011 disc was worth while for us.

We have three cars with factory nav (2 Toyotas, 1 Corvette) and I normally buy one new disc each year. That means each car gets updated every 3 years.

We have a portable Garmin, but i prefer the factory nav for various reasons that may or may not apply to other people.

Finding your way home in your new subdivision is not the problem, it is finding other people in their new subdivision is the issue. The reason most people use their area as an example is because they know how long the area is there and know the streets are not on the map.

A little off topic here - but do not plug your home address into your NAV unit ! Rather, select the nearest intersection. Reason? YOU know where you live ... you want some stranger who stole your NAV, Car, iPhone to know? Talk about adding insult to injury. Tell your kids too..

The factory NAV in my vette has home as home... It's such a crappy NAV no one will steal it right? My Garmin has home set to the local PD.
