Default Service traction control

Just had the car out. Car ran good but when I hammered down on it doing approx. 80 MPH the "service traction control" came up in the display. Also the CEL came on and the "skid" marks indicating there was no traction control availiable. These lights were not solid just flashing. I was driving in competitive mode. Once I seen it I just coasted and all the symptoms were gone. Drove for about another 10 miles and tried it again with the same results. I recently installed a widebody kit. Car is supercharged. It was only about 40 degrees out. Any thought. Thanks in advance.

How is your front to rear tire ratio? Also how was your air pressure? Like maybe a boarderline low rear that way cause your ratio to be off and cause the traction control to mess up.

Car is a 2008. I did install new tires, wheels, and sensors when I did my widebody. My profile and diameter stayed the same. Only thing that changed was the width. Wondering if it isn't those sensors playing around.

Width shouldn't be a factor in that...

been having same problem on stock size tires...
chime goes off/service traction control with a momentary pull back on power at ~78mph when going up through the gears hard. happens whether in 3rd or 4th gear.
tried cleaning wheel speed sensors in the back as another member had luck with that, but it did not work for me...
resets after shutdown, but spoils the fun any time you try to merge onto an empty freeway...

Went out again today and same result. Air pressure in all tires are at 32 pounds. Seems only at hard acceleration on highway doing approx. 80 MPH does it happen (service traction control / reduced power). Being supercharged it will drop from 6th down to about 4th when stomping on the gas. Wonder if this is just to much for the system to handle. Never had a problem with it before though.

Only time the telescoping steering wheel is used is the easy in and out feature. I guess this could trigger it. I have put wider tires on my car, new GM TPMS, also put some of those chrome pizza pans on the hubs to get rid of the ugly rusty hubs. Went to pull DTC codes with my EFI live and all I had was a P300 (randem misfire). When my "Service traction control" comes on in the Display the Check engine light and the "no traction control flashes about 10 times then stops (no lights stay lit). I then put the car back into "competetive mode". Car runs great until I stomp on the gas and then it comes up again. Car just finished having a complete widebody done on it. Had it do this a few times last summer but very few. Only seems to do it when you really get on it.

If you are using the in and out feature of the telescoping wheel, then it is used twice every time the car is driven, which realistically is about as much use as possible. In this case I think it could be the connector being stretched under the column which can cause these symptoms. GM has a fix for this.

Ok, here is what I do know. After driving around for about 2 hours I pulled into my driveway. Decided to check for any underlying codes before I shut off the car. As soon as I plugged in my EFI live to the cars outlet all the "Service Traction control, active handling, ect came on in the DIC. Funny thing is before the traction control garbage came on it said in the DIC max speed is set at 258 kph (or something close) I could trigger this just about anytime I plugged in my efi live cable afterwards. Even when I erased the codes. Weird?

The key indication here is the CEL. The CEL is being caused by an engine problem. I think the flashing light indicates a misfire situation but I don't remember well enough to say for sure. If there is an issue within the engine control electronics that prevents it from performing its part of the traction control function the PCM will sit a diagnostic code and send a message to the EBCM saying I can't do my job. The EBCM will also set a diagnostic code that indicates that it received this message from the PCM and that code will cause the service traction control message. There are some other scenarios that might cause this to happen as well but the clip at the steering sensor isn't one of them. If you can run the codes for the PCM and the EBCM post them here and that will help the forum experts to help you. Just saying you got the message and lights on the dash is like saying the car is broke. Sort of useless. Be advised though, the codes only tell you where to start looking and what tests to perform and do not tell you what to replace. Each code has a diagnostic procedure that if followed correctly should lead the trouble shooter to the correct answer.

Bill, this car does pull a few P300 random misfire codes. It is the only code I have seen to date. All the other stuff is in the DIC and does not storea code for me. It very well could be a misfire code at high RPM that is triggering this. I am running TR6 plugs wihich I change out about ever 3000 miles or so. Might change out my wires the next time as well.

I was thinking the harness on the column because of the lack of a hard code but I'm not married to the idea, it's just something to check. It certainly would be easy to unclip it, spray a bit of contact cleaner and re-connect. Also, compressing the column all the way in and leaving it there for a while might help to eliminate it as a source of a problem. If you are changing plugs every 3,000 miles then either something is wrong with the engine to cause the need to do this, or you are changing them about 97,000 miles too early. A supercharger doesn't cause fouled plugs or add lead to the gasoline.

Well pulled out my TR6 spark plugs. They were all gapped anywhere from 28 to 36. Wires looked good. Poured in 2 bottles of injector cleaner along with some octane boost. This was with about 1/2 tank of chevron top grade fuel. When I was setting my PO300 code it was gas that had sat in the car well it was in storage for 5 months. Doent know if this was the reason but I have not coded again since and I drove it real hard the other day.
