Does the polyester keep the paint from getting scuffed / scratched?

Yes, its a light weight soft material that won't scuff the paint like the older vinyl types tend to do

Put mine through the test last night with a 150 mile run through love bugs. Worked fine.No evidence of harm to paint or car.

Yes, but be sure to seal the edges of the holes so
The material doesn't run. Clear nail polish would be a good choice

Quick question....what is the best way to remove the little plastic tabs that hold the plastic fender liner?

FYI...radar detector cord works like a champ. Now need to fashion a mount...

I just use a flat head screwdriver to pop them out. Glad you like the new radar cord!
