So my car recently got hit with some hail and I'm dealing with that at the moment. 2 nights ago I was driving home and I hit a series of pot holes and I think it may have caused serious damage. First I was paying attention and actually doing under the speed limit. These holes blended very well in the road at night. My concern is : I contacted the city and they gave me an ins. form and then proceeded to tell me that I should claim it on my ins. cause their's will prob deny the claim as they do most pot hole claims. This city claimed they were unaware of the holes, but I went and talked to the nearby businesses and they say they have been there over a month atleast. I'm going to fill out the form and see where that leads me. If results aren't satisfactory I will contact my lawyer. When I hit, it hit hard. There was asphalt stuck on my subframe I hit so hard. I think the alignment may have been tweaked, my air dam was damaged and I was to have my radiator support inspected. Has anyone dealt with this with a city before or how would this be handled with my ins. if nothing comes about with the city ? Any input is greatly appreciated. I would post pics, but I only get on the forum via my iPhone & don't know how to post pics from it. They also fixed holes today after I told them I would contact my lawyer giving the holes were ignored for so long & in front of their water station which is checked everyday. So I feel their excuse of not knowing is bogus...
That SUCKS ... sorry it happened, but based on our economy, expect roads to get a lot worse over the next few years. The rains & hail this Spring have also been unprecedented ... can't control that.
Hey, it's a car, and it was made to take more punishment than most. Alignment is an easy fix & I doubt the frame was damaged. I'd be more concerned about the hail damage. Nonetheless, get 'er fixed and enjoy ... life's too short.
I would first have it inspected by a dealer you trust and go from there. You may only need an alignment and if its worse contact your insurance agent. They can probably can give you some direction on which way to proceed. Good Luck
Don't you know you should never take it out of the garage.
Lol, well I'm 27 and not many 27 yr old guys would just leave it in the garage, plus it was date night for me and what better way to pick the ladies up than in the gorgeous C6 ? I'm glad she wasn't with me when it happened, I was beyond disgusted with my luck this week... I just want it back to the way it was and go drive the hell out of it !
Man that sucks. Do you have any shimmy while driving? Just had mine take a beating on a wheel and am in the process of replacing it. Get it to a dealer you trust, they will take care of it. As for the city, if its anywhere like NYC good luck.
Damn, that is a bad week! Hope it works out. The suburban roads are crap around here to. Luckily I don't have to drive into Mpls very often. Terrible there!
i tried the city pot hole crap before and got every excuse in the world as to why they wont pay me.. had 800$ damage on a car before and didnt get a friggen pennie! and i went to high levels

I don't have a shimmy, but my wheel is not centered as it once was when driving straight.
This city claimed they were unaware of the holes...
You may be fighting a losing battle if there's no way to prove the city knew the potholes were there and were negligent in repairing them. Here's an explanation from a city attorney I found online...
Whether a city pays for pothole damage depends on whether they knew about the hole and whether the driver was negligent.
Because cities have a statutory duty to maintain streets and sidewalks they are not protected by sovereign immunity. They can be liable for damaged cars or injured people if they have been negligent in their responsibility to keep up the streets and sidewalks.
If a city has not been notified of a pothole, then it is not liable. A city should not have to pay for damages if it acts on the problem in a reasonable amount of time – as in a week or so.
Same for me this week. HUGE pothole under a viadock, hard to see on a sunny day. In the process of having to replace 2 tires. Hopefully the rims are OK, no noticeable damage. The tires now have fairly large bubbles on the sides.
Anyone have a rear C6 tire for sale?? F1 EMT 285/35/R19
