Cabin Filter
In my previous car it was recommened to change the cabin filter every other oil change so about every 20,000 miles. I am 17,000 so I was looking in the manual yesterdy where the cabin filter is..but could not find it...

Right behind the battery. Try page 3-31 in 2008 manual.

You may be surprised by how much junk is in that filter. I would suggest checking it that often but it is easy to see if it needs changing or not. If the car is in a garage all the time, every other oil change may be more often than necessary.

This is what I did...OEM filter is outrageously expensive.

Very easy to replace. As noted it is in the engine compartment on the firewall just behind the battery on the passenger side.
It should be changed basically once per year (varies depending upon mileage.)
It is listed in the 2008 owners manual on page 3-31. It is listed in the index under Climate Control System, Air Filter, Passenger Compartment.

Thanks everyone for all the great responses, I looked in the back of the owners manual by the air filter section. Also, looked in index under C for Cabin Filter....thanks again

Yes, it
should be... and plenty of folks report that it's easy.
But it sure wasn't for me:

Especially see post #20 in the above link -- make sure to install it oriented correctly
and be careful not to tear it.

Someone said GM recently dropped the price of the filter, no details.
We changed ours at about 20k and it was filthy.
Just changed again today at 31k and it could have been reused.
