Default Tag Cost

The other thread about personlized car tags got me to thinking about what each state charge per year. In Georgia the fee is $55 plus the Ad Valorem Tax. How does this compare with your state ?

This is a sample of what I have. Its $78 bucks a year extra. My registration this year was $458 total.

Proceeds from the sales and renewals of the California Memorial license plates will go towards the Antiterrorism Fund as well as the California Memorial Scholarship Fund.

TN, where there's no wheel tax (most counties), regular tags are $24 a year and personalized tags are an extra $35 a year.

This costs me about 500.00 a year. We have very high taxes on vehicle registrations. (And everything else). Proceeds go to beer and cigarettes for the cronies running the show !!

In Oklahoma I think it is about $40.00 over the cost of the yearly tag which is about $105.00.

Oh boy....Wait until the rest of the Johnson County, KS people find this thread. I just paid mine

I think all three of my vehicles were about the same...here it is

2009 GMC Acadia
2008 Cadillac CTS
2005 Corvette

Total cost for tags $1,100.00 for the year of 2012 (mine are due in May of each year)

...oh, sorry, I did not see that this was for personallized tags....that's another couple of hundred bucks on top of this.

DAMN! Glad all you Canadians make high 6 figure incomes so $500.00 is just folding money in your wallet.

$500.00 seems a bit excessive for a simple vehicle registration and a personalized plate for your car. Cigarettes must be more expensive too in Canada. No doubt heavily taxed...

You have no clue. For starters, there are no personalized plates in quebec. I happened to get that one when a friend who works at the bureau called to tell me they were on the series "bad". I quickly told her to find Z06 and put it aside for me.
Cigarettes 7-10 a pack depending brand.
Gas 1.45 a litre (close to 6.00/ gallon)

So what you're saying is the actual plate production was at BAD and you had your connection added the ZO6 to the first 3 digits to get an actual plate that looks like a "personalized plate"? How cool...

And the cancer sticks sound expensive too! No thanks.

Go Canucks!

What's a Valorem Tax? Starts with a "V" so must be related to the Latin word Vaseline!

New Mexico, where I have had "prestige plates" since 1968, charges $17 per year in addition to the annual registration fee. FWIW. . .

Yes. It is totally random as to what series they are on when you plate your car. I have probably the most "personalized" plate in quebec. Vette owners freak out. Some stop me to ask how I did that. Lol. Kinda cool.

Here in NJ, you pay a one time fee of $50. I've done it twice. MAG RED and LUVMINE. The registration is also about $50 per year.
