Us Duramax drivers have know about the K&N and the Amsoil oiled filters for almost ten years now. An independent lab, at the request of the Diesel Place forum members, did a comparison between the above and almost every paper filter on the market. It was a very extensive test. After all the smoke had cleared the OEM AC Delco was heads and shoulders above the rest. Later! Frank
If someone can notice a performance gain with a high performance filter then they are ultra sensitive. Some vendors post power charts that show a very small increase at higher RPM but nothing below 2500 rpm where you probably lose power.
The air filter's primary job is to clean the air coming into the engine. Why put a filter in there that is not that effective? I have the stock filter and I remove it once per year to knock the dust/dirt out. There is always a good amount of crud and it still looks brand new after 30k miles.
When my 08 hit 40,000 miles I wanted to go ahead and change the air filter. $139.00 dang, so I bought one of those oil soaked cotton ones. My thinking was I could just clean it, and won’t have to buy another one.
This tread convinced me how stupid that is.
First I have found over a period of time, $139.00 is chicken feed to a Corvette owner.
$139.00 for 50,000 miles, I’m on my third set of tires, and they cost a LOT more than that.
And I just ordered a OEM air filter, and will get rid of the oily cotton one.
Thanks for the common sense advice.

Cheaper than $139 if you go thru one of the forum vendors also. I think about $110 including shipping.
