Great resource here. Click on "Battery-Optima" in the yellow pane for an education.

Maybe it's me, but I have had less problems with the stock AC Delco in my C6 than I did with the Red Top in my C5.

However, long-time Vette folks swear by the Optimas.

If your OEM battery lasted five years why would you replace it with something else?

Mine too went (almost) five years. I replaced it with the OEM, why would I not?

The red top in my C5 did not last long at all. Probably should have bought the yellow top and as someone already said, the factory oem one.

Since you apparently got 5 years good service from the OEM Delco battery, why do you want to spend extra for an Optima? Might be good peace-of-mind. Or it might be an unnecessary extra expense.

Anyway, Optima Yellow Top is better for "rechargeability" and deep-discharge applications. Does your car sit for weeks without a battery tender?

Optima Red Top advertises better cranking power.

Or select based on color, to coordinate with your car.

Make sure you get the correct SIZE battery. 05 has a different-size battery tray than 06.

And make sure your new battery has the terminal posts correctly-oriented for your model year.

The devil's definitely in the details -- see Bugman's site.

Since you are switching out, might be worth spending a couple of extra bucks and get that protective mat that sits underneath the battery.

My Optima leaked a little bit and in a C5, the computer sits underneath the battery and I've heard of people having major problems when an unchecked leak deposited stuff on the 'puter.
