It's in Stock! Amazing, or not?
Well, I went down to the local one and only dealer here on Maui to order a replacement latch since I couldn't find the part here and guess what? They had one in stock, in the correct color Cashmere of course, this tells me that this is a problem that happens more often than not, for the single dealer on this Island to carry in inventory. Thanks for all the responses, both supportive and not, as for how the latch broke, yeah maybe I pulled too hard, didn't think much about it at the time still for the latch to snap in two pieces??? Anyway 58.00 later and as stated by el es tu, had to install the key lock assembly all is well, be careful to the rest of you, the latch is brittle, ( The flat part that you pull to open), take care gang wishing all miles of smiles.....
tomzarbo, great vid...Thanks!

Thank you, thank you. My (cashmere yes) glove box handle just broke. Differently than yours did but your video helped me see how it should work and helped me get it apart. Thanks much for creating the video.

Great video. My glove box has been ok. (Fingers crossed). However, the little plastic piece that latches my console broke the other day on the DSV console cover. Super glued it back on and let it sit open for a few days. So far so good.

Okay, now its my turn. Cheap thing snapped off in about 5 pcs. Glad to read its common and not my brute hands.
So...how do you get the glovebox open without the latch handle??

DDuke:
Watch the video up in post #14 and you'll see the little metal tang that has to be pulled down to the get the remainder of the latch to open the glovebox.
I slid a plastic cable tie through above the metal tang and left the loop dangling down as my glove box "Opener" until the replacement part arrived in the mail.
Good Luck.

Well...
2006 Black latch is fine... but again... I open it 3 times a year on average... Every 6 months for new insurance card, and once a year for Registration...

Thanks for the vid.
I've opened/closed my console and glove box gingerly since this problem was first mentioned on the Forum.
Probably only a matter of time before the plastic fatigues.
Gene's on speed-dial.

I'm a black car, grey interior victim. Happened to me this past weekend in my '08. Problem is that it wasn't locked in the first place and I can't get it open, not without extreme force.

I guess I have been lucky. My early 08 in Cashmer has not broke yet.. Keeping my fingers crossed. However, being aware of this problem, I open it very carefully. Also plan to buy a backup one of these days, so I have it if and when it does break...

My early 08 cashmere just broke in my father's gorilla hand. Although I know I can make the replacement one (due in soon) last forever, I must say, what a hunk o' junk totally not worth $40. For $40+ dollars it should be made of unobtainium! Sheesh! I'm hoping they have improved the design a bit since 2007.

Moving that lock cylinder over is a PITA.
