Default air conditioning problem?????

Got an 08 Z. Every once in awhile the ac will just quit, fan stops blowing. Just like I've turned it off. Then after a short time it will come back on like nothing happened. Any idea what the heck is going on?

Take it to the dealer. It's under warranty. Or is it?

Under extended factory warranty. Yeah I know I can take it to the dealer but I was wondering if anybody else had this problem.

Does this happen after you've been heavy on the gas pedal? If so, I believe it's normal for auto shutoff of the a/c.

It's happened a few times to me with my 09 C6 Z51 auto. But I don't recall if the fan was affected.

Anyway, it's a good excuse for a heavy-throttle experiment ("Honest, officer, I was just testing the a/c shutoff").

I've heard about the A/C not blowing cold air because of an overfill of the coolant (over pressure switch kicks in)....if the blower fan itself is shutting down take it in for service

IIRC, WOT will disengage the A/C compressor, but it definetly doesn't shut off the blower fan.

Yeah, the fan cuts off too. My son has it on a road trip right now, but I'll take it in to the dealer on Monday.

Hardluck,
I have an 08 and for the last year or so my a/c or heater has been acting funny too. Sometimes it won't turn on, sometimes it won't turn off. At other times, although it's working, fan control speed won't work and temp adjustment won't work.
Mind you this is VERY intermittant; most times it operates OK. Dealer did check it out and could not recreate the condition.
The other day, the a/c wouldn't shut off and the fan was on pretty high (could not reduce the fan speed), so I got home, parked it figuring the next am all would be fine. Generally, that's what happens.
Not this time as the fan was still very high and blowing VERY cold air. The a/c info panel was going nuts blinking on and off showing numbers which looked like heiroglyphics.
Immediately drove to dealer. By the time I got there, my beans were the size of BBs, it was sooooo damn cold.
The mechanic saw the a/c panel going wild so he didn't think I was nuts. After checking it out he thinks it needs a new "head panel" which was ordered and will be installed next week.
Luckily, when I drove it home, the cold air was no longer blowing but the panel was not working at all as it did not even display the outside temp. I wasn't going to tempt fate and try to operate it.
Hopefully, the fix they're suggesting will work and I'll keep you posted on the results. If you get any further info from your dealer, please post.

Thanks Acky, Mine just shuts off completely and then will come back on. Doesn't matter how fast or slow your going, it just quits. No blower no nothing.
I,m taking it to the dealer Monday.

Before you do that, disconnect the battery ground for 10 minutes, reconnect and let the car reset. Many times this reboot cures these electronic glitches.

Took it to the dealer last week. Keep it for 3 days. No codes came up. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. Decided they would replace the blower motor assembly. Had to order it. Be in in a couple of weeks.

Default Stop crooked mechanics

Hello,
Acky, I saw your post about ac problems today. First I wanted to let you know that your mechanic is a crook. The ac when low on coolant will blink for a time and then the screen will go blank and revert into service mode. If the level is not to low it will blow at max speed and coldest temp so you can recharge it. by the way the left temp dial changes function and works as a fan speed control so you dont have to freeze to death -if the level is not to low- if the level drops below threshold then the unit wont blow cold at all and the dial wont affect fan speed. you can also disconnnect the battery after screen goes blank and it will reset the head unit to working (perhaps to turn it off) until the unit changes to service mode again. all is needed is to charge system via low pressure port(cold) +/_ change the valve in the port which is just a bicycle valve the most common reason slow leak develops. glad it was under warranty but it will happen again so now you know. I have a beef with these F'n mechanics ripping off people and I go out of my way to bust them.

I know this thread is old but I wanted to add that some C6s were overfilled with freon at the factory...this could cause these symptoms too...just as an underfill can.

turn engine off and system off. Restart engine wait 5-10 minutes the turn on ac or heater.

You just answered a 9 year old thread. It's likely fixed, or sold by now.
