Default Brake Pads?

Have the F55 with drilled rotors (Z51 brakes). Have a squeak in LR wheel that drives me crazy & dust big time on the chrome aluminums. So ...

1. Ceramic or stick with stock pads? Just driving around town; no plans to autocross/track

2. If ceramic, which ones? I've read about Hawk Performance Ceramics, CarboTech (need 2nd mortgage and have read they wear fast) and Delco

3. If stick with stockers, how do you get rid of the squeal in the LR???

I suppose that I'll also change the brake fluid since its the original from 3/2008. Any suggestions on the best fluid for these cars??? Thanks

I've tried all the ones on the forum and the only ones that don't make noise or dust are Akebono. You don't have to Bed them and there is 0 dust. I changed over to Z06 brakes and Hawk ceramic pads and there is 3 times the dust my Akebonos put out and there not very expensive search the web.

Here's the pads I've been running for over a year with excellent results.... I have the same suspension with slotted/drilled rotors. Brake dust is minimual and stopping power is excellent....... They were bedding in properly and I have ZERO squealing with this setup... Check for pricing but the prices are what I paid which included shipping!

Or you could go with EBC Bleustuff NDX, a new development. I have them on my car and they don't squeal only minimal dust, the dust you get is easy to remove.

The reason I didn't go with the Blue pads is I don't track mine and wanted brake dust to be minumual. The mixed ceramic does a great job of that without giving up much braking power. The Blue was pushing 300 bucks for a complete set which I thought was a little pricey just for street use pads.....

If you want to do ceramics then you can use the Hawk or GM ceramics. We have had great luck with both! The only trick to any new brake pads is resurfacing or scuffing up the rotors and bedding in the new pads. If you don't bed in the new pads, there will be noises. Other than that, ceramics provide low dust and low noise.

I installed Akebono on my wifes G35 and had the same experience but also suffered an increase in braking distance, more noticeable when cold. The G35 like the Vette has excellent brakes so you are still able to out brake most cars on the road, other people may not notice the difference, just something to be aware of after you switch.

My preference is Carbotech, when bedded properly, low dust and noise, I've gotten good life and they are gentle on the rotors Great linear modulation, the harder you press the brake peddle, the progressively more braking torque you get.

I used to have a lot of squeaks before swapping out my stock rotors for slotted/ drilled ones and adding Hawk ceramic pads.

As long as you're not doing any track days, a ceramic pad is the best choice IMO. The Power Stop Evolution Ceramic pads we carry provide excellent stopping power with minimal dusting and no noise. A complete front/rear set is only $60.00 shipped in the contiguous 48. Check out the link in my signature for product info and customer reviews!
