Who knows Gene. The sets of brakes I got from you a long while back, went onto my car a couple of days ago finally and they are working perfect. Thanks

I went back and replaced the rotors and again, new pads, no squealing. Turning of the rotors probably would have worked just fine, but they had been turned before and new rotors were not that much cost so I replaced them.
That would make sense actually, maybe the rotors have more to do with it then I initially thought. I had around 16-17000 miles on my rotors before I put on ceramics and did not have them turned. I will have to keep that in mind for when I put ceramics on the GT500

Yes. After opening up the brakes several times. I sanded down the rotors with a 320 sand paper and washed the rotors after with soap/water.
Seems like all is good so far.

Thanks for all the help!

HELLO ALL,
Unhappy to say this, but my brakes are squeaking again! This is driving me crazy!!! NO clue what to do. Im almost at the point of putting my stock brakes back on. They were silent, but produced a lot of dust. Any ideas?

As much as I appreciate GM being here, I have to tell you. You are asking to let you know!!!!
Please do a simple search under brakes and you will find numerous threads on this ongoing issue. My rotors had 5000 miles on them when I decided to switch to ceramics. I am one of those numerous threads. I have done EVERYTHING listed here to stop the squealing on my 08 Z51 and the problem still persists.
So when you ask to let you know, I would think that by now GM has heard about this issue. So please let us all know what the solution is when GM pads do not stop squealing other that to have to go buy other non GM pads.
Thanks

I have done some searching on this forum I know Brake Squeak is fairly common with GM Ceramics, but does anyone know a fix? Sorry, squeal is annoying and just want a back to normal.
Should I put on my original z51 pads, bc they are almost new and never had a prob with them?

The little clips on the ends of the pads that keep them from rattling don't always do the job. On my right front one of the clips was really loose and I could wiggle the pads. When going slow in my subdivision over joints I could hear a clank sound when I drove by parked cars.

I removed the caliper and pads, bent the clip a bit for a tighter fit, and also used anti squeak compound on the back of the brakes to give them even less of a chance of moving around w.r.t. the caliper. Problem solved.

If, in fact, the little clips do anything for squeels, I would recommend you check them all out to see if they fit tightly enough or if they are loose.

Mine were loose starting at about 4K miles or so and it took me a while to figure out what to do but the rattle is gone. Who knows if this also helps with squeels.

This may be a stupid question, but there was a segment on Motorweek a while back that showed a new device for stopping brake noise - it was a plastic cup with a slight lip on the open top that fit inside the caliper piston. The claim was that whatever material the lip was made from stopped the pad from moving relative to the rotor/piston eliminating the vibration we hear as "squeal". Has anyone found those for the C6 fitment or would they even work given the piston design (I haven't had my pads off my 2008 coupe yet, but I have GM ceramics to put on it)?
Enjoy,
akriggm

What was loose? the pad in the clip or the clip itself in the caliper?

Funny....I put Delco ceramic pads on my Z-51. No rotor scuffing, no "bedding" no nothing and they were perfectly quiet from day one (that was two years ago ). Did the job myself.

I replaced the upper and lower retaining clips on each caliper, but these parts were extra, anyone know if they are used? Also where do they go?

Thanks

Same thing with my '08 Z51, nothing has stopped the right rear squeal with a light touch of the brake.

I couldn't get the GM Ceramics to stop squealing on my 08 F55. Based on recommendations from the forum, I went with Akebono pads and it has been quiet since.
