I have a pain in the glass!! Last year's bullseye chip finally graduated to a full blown half moon, 10" scar. I remember most of what I researched last year and can't find much on "search", but any help will be greatly appreciated.
Guardian can get me the PPG glass used by GM but with no "GM" logo. Guardian says I couldn't get even that from the dealer.
I know I need the HUD and OnStar window and I know that GM has used several producers before. I gave Guardian all the info on the lower right side of my wondow and they have to order it. State Farm will cover all but my $500 deductible.
Can any one add to this. I believe the non "GM" logoed window will probably be fine but chime in if you've had this done recently.
There is a new PN for a newer version of the HUD w/Onstar/ Its about 1/2 the price as the older version and has the GM logo on it. I think it cost me overall about @1K range complete installed, me only paying the $500 deductable. Have a local dealer look it up. Partstaxi = 764.00 for w/HUD w/GPS GMPartshouse = $795 this is looking in the Fiche on 2009 & up. Will fit older models base /GS/Z06
I remember when my 90 ZR-1 windshield cracked. The glass company quoted me $5,000, IIRC. I told state farm that if they waived my $500 deductible, I'd let them install the standard windshield, which cost about 10x less. They said NO. Ok..
is there a difference between a Z06 windshield and a non-Z06 windshield?
Yes there is at least on the C5's. The ZO6 windshield is a little thinner
and lighter if my memory is correct. I assume but could be wrong
that this is also the case on a c6.
Thanks, Rick. This was the stuff I read before, that I was trying to find. So glad you're not one of "the search is your friend" types. I tried many choices but couldn't find these references. Now I can make an intelligent decision. It appears Guardian is correct. PPG makes the product although it won't have GM on it. Thanks again. Norm
If you are filing a claim and all you are paying out of pocket is $500... why not go with an original peice of glass and have the dealer install?
I just had a new one installed about 2 months ago. GM glass from the dealer. They didnt have any problems getting it, not sure what Guardian is talking about...lol... Never heard of a GM dealer not being able to get GM parts.

Thanks all
Most insurance co's do not replace with oem glass. I know I've tried. Also take a look at different insurance co's. Why do they apply a deductible to glass replacement. I have never paid a deductible.
USAA used Safelite and frankly I can't tell the difference. The quality and the install are as if the glass was never broken. Picked up several rocks on I-10 around Ft. Stockton where they were repairing the road.
